The Abandoned Orchid Tree Inn
Yesterday I realized I forgot to pack my card-reader. Then how did, you ask, I upload and blog about La Plaza? I went to a Rite Aid and bought a card-reader and on my way I found a hidden treasure…the currently for sale Orchid Tree Inn. Gear up for another picture heavy post, because this place is too amazing for words.
Okay, maybe it’s not all that hidden…it’s just a block off the main drag, but still. Anyhow, I kind of freaked out. Here was an early Spanish Revival bungalow style hotel and it was for sale. For. Sale. Seriously. Where is my winning lottery ticket when I need it?
Oh, and did I mention it comes with an old church too? The Community Church of Palm Springs built in 1935 to be exact.
I discovered the place has the hefty price tag of a cool $7,450,000. Yeah. Kill me. So I just have to suffice with a handful of snapshots since it appears Patrick and I won’t be reopening this old place anytime soon. I wish there hadn’t have been the fence that also included tarps around it, making it unable for me to get as many pictures as I would have liked… sigh
I hope someone comes along soon and restores it to its former glory.

Absolutely amazing! I sure do hope that whoever buys that place will see it’s beauty and retore it to keep it original charme.
It’s been vacant for at least five years. I don’t know why someone doesn’t snatch it up! I think there’s another cool looking abandoned hotel on that strip, too. Oh, to dream!
I love it!! I would totally move there & run it with you! We could stroll through the courtyard wearing vintage western wear & greeting guests as they take in the gorgeous scenery! ahhh….to dream. We’ve just got to scheme a way to raise the funds….hmmmm…. 🙂

That is one take-your-breath away big price tag, but goodness, it is a magnificent location, and one that made for the perfect backdrop for your gorgeous turquoise frock.

The buy-one-get-one idea cracks me up: “Buy a hotel, get a church FREE!” It makes me curious about similar special, kitschy business buildings: Are many of them for sale? And if so, what causes such businesses to fail? Hmm, must do some research! Bye! Thanks for this food for thought.
My friends family owned it for 60 years. It was a fantastic place away from the city. When the new (current) owner didn’t get what he wanted from the city, two of the most historic buildings (on the property) in Palm Spring just happened to burn down. They are out of their minds with the 7M price. I would love to re-open the Orchidtree and let its glory shine once again. Thanks for visiting it, it brings back fantastic memories. Lets start a campaign!!
I spent my honeymoon here December 30, 1961
Stayed there in the mid 80’s. What a great little place it was. Sad to see it like this.
My mother pissed all of it away. Selfish lady it was my grandparents hotel.
