Westward Ho!
I’m sure many of you are pinners on Pinterest and have pinned many an item that you are longing to own off of Etsy, but it’s out of budget, or sold on Etsy, or just something you came across on the internet and are determined to own one day. Well, for me, one (of hundreds) of those items has finally come into my possession, this wonderful wagon train skirt…
I came across this wagon train skirt via Pinterest and quickly followed the Etsy link only to discover it had sold, and wasn’t even in my size if it wasn’t. Then Julie of FabGabs got her hands on one, and before you could say “Bob’s your uncle!” it was gone, sold to Sarah of Simply Vintage, in fact! Then just a week or so later, the lovely Lyndsie of Retro Rejuvenation shot me a text offering one she just found! So, while this skirt has been “mine” for a few months, it didn’t make its way into my pretty little hands until this last weekend when Lyndsie came to visit. And between that time and now, I found out that Solanah of Vixen Vintage purchased one, and I heard that Jessica of Chronically Vintage also has one! Isn’t this craziness!? I guess this was a popular skirt at the time and still is today!

Yes!!! I know precisely that experience you’re describing. I constantly see things online that I would beyond love to add to my wardrobe (including a good many of the pieces you sport, dear gal, including your fabulous hats, tooled shoes, and unendingly awesome array of novelty brooches), but which I’m not able to for whatever reason (size, budget, they sell before I get hit BIN, outbid on eBay, etc).
Would you believe it, I own one of these exact same skirts, too. I paid quite a pretty penny (in my books) for it last year on eBay. In fact, it might actually have been the most I’ve ever paid for a skirt before (in the top three for sure). I’ve loved covered wagon era exploration and history since I was a little girl reading Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books and playing Oregon Trail in the computer lab at school, so when I saw that skirt in my size (the eBay listing was the first time I’d seen this particular 50s novelty print), I was determined to make it one. Thankfully, for once, the eBay powers that be were on my side and I won the auction. It arrived in slightly poorer shape than described, but I was able to mend the two problem spots by hand and it’s now in very good shape.
I think this is one of the coolest 50s novelty prints of all time and am super thrilled to know that we both own this very same skirt.

the skirt reminds me on a novelty print skirt (holiday themed with brighter colours) i didn’t bought in last december in a shop here in berlin. i thought, it was too summery and i was actually looking for something warm … i have to go back and get it … if it’s there waiting for me. 😉

Hi Lisa! They run pretty true to size, maybe slightly on the bigger side. For years I’ve worn a 7-7 1/2, with more shoes on a 7 1/2 side of things. The 7s fit my feet perfectly, but initially feel tight. However they are all leather, and will stretch. I must admit, I have yet to fully stretch out any of my pairs, so none are totally comfortable yet. But many swing dancers swear by them, I consider myself to have a pretty average foot width, though I have heard some people say my feet are narrow. That being said, I feel like the Re-Mixes work really well with my foot, leaving no gaping on the sides at all. Hope that helps! 🙂
