Greetings from Los Angeles

I seem to have caught a slight summer cold, and have been trying to rest up as much as possible lately, especially since Cast Member canoe races have officially kicked off, and I’m overjoyed to be a part of this tradition at the Disneyland Resort. With all of that being said, I sadly haven’t been out much, but this offered the perfect moment to introduce a new series!

One thing I don’t often admit to collecting is postcards. Usually they are ones of local interest, or perhaps have a cute pin-up cartoon on them. But I recently realized I have amassed quite a California collection, and I thought it would be fun to share them, like I did with the vintage photographs series I had sometime ago, which I may like to pick up again, as I might still have a few stragglers that never got posted.

I usually prefer the old linen postcards, which the fair majority of these will be, but of course there are a few glossy ones that may sneak in here and there throughout the posts. And what better way to kick off this series than some old images of Los Angeles? I can just hear Sid Hudgens now, “Come to Los Angeles! The sun shines bright, the beaches are wide and inviting, and the orange groves stretch as far as the eye can see. There are jobs aplenty, and land is cheap. Every working man can have his own house, and inside every house, a happy, all-American family. You can have all this, and who knows…you could even be discovered, become a movie star…or at least see one. Life is good in Los Angeles…it’s paradise on Earth.”

Look for more vintage postcard posts in the future!

How about you, do you collect postcards? Vintage or maybe new ones from your travels?
