Month: October 2021

A wider view of our front lawn, the upper portion features warm decomposed granite, various cacti and various wooden tombstones. Hanging from our garage is a sign reading "Boot Hill" and on the left leaning against the garage is an open wooden coffin with a skeleton dressed in cowboy attire.

Dressing Up Our Home for Halloween

October 28, 2021, 5 Comments on Dressing Up Our Home for Halloween

While we have always decorated the outside of our home for Christmas, we never decorated for Halloween, and this year we decided to change that. Since our front yard is landscaped with desert plants, we decided to go for a western, Boot Hill look, including making tombstones and a coffin to house a bandit who…

Apple Picking in Oak Glen

October 26, 2021, 1 Comment on Apple Picking in Oak Glen

Tucked up in the hills of California’s inland empire is the quaint town of Oak Glen. With less than 500 residents, it’s a relatively sleepy little town until autumn arrives, when this country haven is overrun with out-of-towners, including myself. Why? It’s the Southern California hot spot for that beloved fall activity of apple picking. Within…

Book Review: Ghoulish Glamour

I was at a Halloween event when I was introduced to the stunning woman of this book. We met through a mutual friend, and I instantly was in awe of her beauty and her incredibly kind and bubbly personality. I learned she was a make-up artist, and over the years have become her friend and been…

Autumn Outing at Disneyland

October 19, 2021, 4 Comments on Autumn Outing at Disneyland

Patrick and I returned to Disneyland last week to bask in the autumn decor. Living in Southern California means there really isn’t a lot of fall color, so sometimes I have to take in the manufactured fall vibes of Disneyland. Especially now as I’m not apt to do a whole lot of traveling at the…

10 Spooky Movies to Watch this Halloween

October 13, 2021, 5 Comments on 10 Spooky Movies to Watch this Halloween

While I love a good spooky movie any time of year, October is still really the best time to curl up with a cozy blanket, some popcorn, and watch a movie that will send some chills down your spine. The horror genre is really quite vast, and goes beyond the the classics and bloody slasher…

Feeling Spooky at Disneyland

October 6, 2021, 4 Comments on Feeling Spooky at Disneyland

Over the weekend Patrick and I spent a day enjoying the fall festivities of Disneyland, including watching the Halloween fireworks show. I love the variety of details found throughout Disneyland, but it really gets turned up a notch during the holidays. I especially love the plethora of Jack O’lanterns scattered along Main Street. So this…

Fifty years ago the music industry lost a pioneer Fifty years ago the music industry lost a pioneer whose influence was just beginning. Gram Parsons, after a brief stint with The Byrds, went on to create The Flying Burrito Brothers, then a solo career, before dying of an overdose at the Joshua Tree Inn at 27. While few I meet know the name, the handful of albums he made left an impact and forged the country rock genre, although he hated the term. Living in Southern California means I’ve been able to retrace many of his steps over the years. From where he jammed, such as the defunct Palomino Club (I got to relive part of it thanks to @valleyrelicsmuseum ), where he drank, including @thecopperroom1957 , where he lived, the Chateau Marmont, the room where he died at the Inn, and where he was “cremated” at Cap Rock in Joshua Tree National Park. Recently I even visited where part of one of his albums was recorded. But the strike has put that post on hold. Eventually I plan to do a Gram SoCal guide but until then here are some snaps of some of those spots.
Mentally summer ends tomorrow. My attitudes around Mentally summer ends tomorrow. My attitudes around seasons have changed over the years, and since the arrival of Ghost Town Alive, it has marked the start and end of summer for me. Tomorrow I’ll bid farewell lounging inside my favorite spot in Calico, Goldie’s, and then eagerly await the fog to roll in and shriek with fear and delight. As always I want to thank the ever talented citizens of Calico, for their dedication, patience, and magic. You make every summer unforgettable.

Then I scored this astronaut costume for only $15, and I of course had to get myself one of the amazing @anaheimhalloweenparade Andy figurines! He is too precious for WORDS! Recently my amazingly talented friends at @matchac Recently my amazingly talented friends at @matchaccessories opened up a brick-and-mortar shop in quaint and adorable downtown Livermore. Not only is it full of the fabulous jewelry many of you already know and love, but also vintage clothing and vintage inspired clothing from @locolindola and @gimmick.clothing ! I was so happy to be able to join in the grand opening festivities. I am so very proud of every member of the Match team. They are some of the most kind, generous, and talented people I have ever had the joy of meeting. If you find yourself in the Bay Area make your way to Livermore! Downtown has a ton of amazing restaurants and a large comic book store! Congrats Millers! So proud of you!!! Love you so much! 💖
