13 Songs From the Depths of Hell!

How can it already be October? September has flown by and I feel as if I haven’t done much Halloween related things, although part of that is due to spraining my foot! And the fact Patrick and I continue to volunteer to prep for Anaheim’s Halloween parade.

So it’s as good as time as any to share a sampling of my Halloween playlist. This year I figured I’d give you some fiery tunes from the depths of hell! Some of these may be songs you already listen to, but I recommend putting on at your next Halloween party, because seriously, give “Thriller” and “Monster Mash” a rest!

Background, which is tinted red, is filled with images of the devil, including a mask, female dancers in devil costumes, and a copy of the Satanic Bible. Overlayed across the top reads "Atomic Redhead Presents Devilish Ditties Fiery songs from the Depths of Hell"

“Hell Bent” Brian Setzer

Those who have checked out my annual Christmas playlist posts are familiar with Brian Setzer, but today I’m sharing one of his hotter tunes…Here Setzer races, claiming an angel is by his side, but knows he is bound for hell. The song has great guitar rifts and worthy of any Halloween or racing playlist.

“Race with the Devil” Gene Vincent & His Blue Caps

Need another devilish racing song? I got you. Knowing he has led an evil life, the singer hides from the Devil until one day the Devil pulls up next to him and they drag.

“Speak of the Devil” The Misfits

Look, it’s not a Halloween playlist unless there is a Misfits song.

“Sympathy for the Devil” The Rolling Stones

In this Stones classic, we are led to believe the Devil was behind various acts throughout history. This is one that perhaps you already have on a playlist somewhere! So go on, add it to your Halloween playlist to shake things up!

“Satan is Her Name” Steve King

Perhaps the Devil is a woman who will break your heart.

“Train to Satanville” Ruby Ann

Make your way to Hell aboard a train, at least you won’t be alone. There are several versions of this tune, I particularly like Ruby Ann’s, as well as Marcel Bontempi’s take.

“Dignitaries of Hell” Coven

I’ve discussed the band Coven before with its history of the “Devil’s Horns” and the relationship to rock music. And the whole album Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls is amazing, but this song is particularly great, giving you the rundown on the various names for the Devil.

“The Hell of It” Paul Williams

I’ve mentioned that Phantom of the Paradise is one of my favorite films, and this number is one of my favorites. If you haven’t seen Phantom of the Paradise, I highly recommend it, especially if you’re a fan of Rocky Horror.

“Hell” Squirrel Nut Zippers

Learn to spell “damnation” with the help of one of the best neo-swing bands around!

“The Devil” Hoyt Axton

I absolutely adore this 1971 song and its sound. Lyrics warn the listener against the Devil, who travels in a hearse.

“The Devil Asked” The Koffin Kats

Much like The Misfits, The Koffin Kats always provide some great songs for Halloween.

“Devil in My Car” The B-25s

Known for iconic songs such as “Love Shack” and “Rock Lobster” The B-52s also dropped this tune that fits the bill!

“Devil Woman” Cliff Richard

This song from 1976 was a hit at its time of release but has more or less faded into obscurity, even though it really should be played in regular rotation during the Halloween season!

Need more songs for Halloween? Check out my other annual Halloween playlists! Want to simply listen to this year’s tracks along with ones from last year? Check out my Spotify playlist! Sadly not all songs showcased over the years are on Spotify, but you’ll still get a ton of wonderful songs perfect for the Halloween season!
