The Haunting of Stone Oak Manor
WARNING: This blog post contains a grizzly image of a very realistic prop of a dismembered body, that some readers may find disturbing.
Tucked away in the hills of Oak Glen rests Stone Oak Manor. Designed by Reginald Inwood for Murle and Samuel Baumann, the manor was built in 1926 using stones found on the property. Today the almost fairytale like house is a cozy bed and breakfast, but this October something sinister has occurred!
While most of Oak Glen caters to family friendly autumn activities, such as apple picking, corn mazes, and cider pressing, Stone Oak Manor takes its cues from haunt events like Knott’s Scary Farm and Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights. Those who are brave enough are welcomed by Stewart the caretaker who seems as if he was ripped from Scooby Doo, inside pictures turn on their own, a mysterious figure appears at a window, loud knocking rattles the 99 year old home, and the owner has gone missing. An eerie chef takes you into the kitchen where all sorts of ghoulish items are being prepared, before escorting you to the dining room.
Intimate and interactive with realistic details and props by AdamJessFX, the Haunting of Stone Oak Manor is a welcome breath of fresh air in the haunt world, and I hope that they continue with it next year. Outside the manor, guests can order tacos, drinks, shop from various vendors, buy a pumpkin, and even take in a movie under the beautiful trees. If you’re in southern California, you still have this weekend to find out what lurks inside for yourself, just visit their website for tickets and details. Outside of October, Stone Oak Manor is a welcoming bed and breakfast and event venue. Patrick and I were saying how nice it would be for a weekend getaway next year, when the Manor celebrates its 100th birthday!
