A Stroll through Historic Virginia City

May 23, 2023, 1 Comment on A Stroll through Historic Virginia City

Recently Patrick and I went on a road trip to visit my mom in Idaho, and anyone who knows me knows I love a road trip. While the route was somewhat familiar, as we had done it before, we made a few fresh stops, including spending some time in Virginia City. Virginia City is similar…

The Fleeting Life of America’s First Integrated Casino, the Moulin Rouge

“In Vegas for 20 minutes, our skin had no color. Then the second we stepped off stage, we were colored again. The other acts could gamble or sit in the lounge and have a drink, but we had to leave through the kitchen with the garbage.” That is how Sammy Davis Jr. described performing in…

The Art of Reno’s Old Motel Signs

April 18, 2017, 5 Comments on The Art of Reno’s Old Motel Signs

I literally took thousands of photos on our road trip, 3322 to be exact. Most were of abandoned buildings and killer vintage signs, which are my two favorite things to photograph, and our road trip was full of them! So much so my photos are coming to you in three, yes, three, separate posts! First…

Remnants of Vegas’ Glitzy Past Live on at the Neon Museum

April 12, 2017, 8 Comments on Remnants of Vegas’ Glitzy Past Live on at the Neon Museum

If you only go to one museum in Las Vegas, it should be the Neon Museum. The Neon Museum is rich in what made Las Vegas famous – neon. That spectacular glow of gases swirling inside glass made the lure of Las Vegas so bright and people flocked. Sadly though, over the years, many motels, hotels,…

Las Vegas’ Ghastly History on Display at The Mob Museum

April 11, 2017, 1 Comment on Las Vegas’ Ghastly History on Display at The Mob Museum

Patrick and I are finally home from our road trip to Idaho! Why Idaho? Well, my grandfather on my mom’s side passed away, so we went for his services, but I figured if we had to go, why not make the best of it, and do a road trip? The first stop on our trip was…

Atomic Testing Museum

January 8, 2015, 9 Comments on Atomic Testing Museum

When I heard that Las Vegas was home to the National Atomic Testing Museum, I was quite giddy with excitement and it went to the top of my list of things to do during our short stay. The image of the atom or of a mushroom cloud may bring out different feelings in different people. For…

It’s so beautiful I could cry! 😭My dad recent It’s so beautiful I could cry! 😭My dad recently scored me autographs from one of my favorite bands, The Flying Burrito Brothers. Normally I don’t care for contract or check signatures, but Gram’s life was so short, I would take anything. This contract is especially interesting though because it is from Gram’s time with The International Submarine Band (pre-Burritos), and when Monte Kay was their manager, who founded the iconic jazz club Birdland in NYC. Now to figure out how I’m going to frame all of this! 🤔

As some of you may know, my parents were massive C As some of you may know, my parents were massive Coca-Cola collectors. They pared down their collection over the years, but the love for the carbonated beverage remained. When I was in kindergarten my aunt got my mom and I matching Coca-Cola swimsuits, and when visiting my mom I found both hers (worn here) and mine, which I plan to put on a stuffed animal. Then in 1998 my dad and I went to Las Vegas, it was during that weird era when Vegas tried to go family friendly, and we went to what was then known as The World of Coca-Cola, an amazing interactive museum. I vividly remember the bottle elevator that made the sound of a bottle being opened when you rode. The dressing room was a Coke glass and when you entered it made the sound of clinking ice and pouring soda. I got this jacket during the visit, but left it at my mom’s when I went away to college. She kept it for me, and it still fits! So of course I had to wear both for a day in Vegas. Sadly the World of Coca-Cola is just the Coca-Cola Store now, but it still offers soda from around the world!

Recently went ax throwing with @cemeterytourguide Recently went ax throwing with @cemeterytourguide and @drunkensquid at @moshouseofaxe . I HIGHLY recommend this place! It is like a mix of Clifton’s and Doug Fur (literally one of the few places form PDX I miss) but with axes. It’s a great place for socializing, releasing frustrations, and amazing food. I look forward to many returns. 🪓
