Behind the Curtain of the Museum of Neon Art at Their Warehouse

May 11, 2023, Leave a Comment on Behind the Curtain of the Museum of Neon Art at Their Warehouse

As some of you know, one of my favorite museums in Southern California is the Museum of Neon Art in Glendale. As amazing as the museum is, it’s quite small, and neon signs tend to be quite big, so it’s no surprise the museum has a warehouse where they house signs not currently on display,…

The Remnants, Remains, and Random Snapshots of 2022

February 1, 2023, 1 Comment on The Remnants, Remains, and Random Snapshots of 2022

Sometimes when Patrick and I go out we find ourselves pulling over when we spy a vintage sign, or a unique or abandoned building. Often these places never have enough meat to them for their very own post (and more often than not, the photos get forgotten about as a result), or they get relegated…

Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the LA County Fair

May 25, 2022, 1 Comment on Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the LA County Fair

Since moving to California in 2014, I had yet to make it to the Los Angeles County Fair. But I just knew I had to go this year, and the LA County Fair turned 100! Los Angeles County tried and failed six different times to start a county fair (while nearby Orange County had it…

It’s so beautiful I could cry! 😭My dad recent It’s so beautiful I could cry! 😭My dad recently scored me autographs from one of my favorite bands, The Flying Burrito Brothers. Normally I don’t care for contract or check signatures, but Gram’s life was so short, I would take anything. This contract is especially interesting though because it is from Gram’s time with The International Submarine Band (pre-Burritos), and when Monte Kay was their manager, who founded the iconic jazz club Birdland in NYC. Now to figure out how I’m going to frame all of this! 🤔

As some of you may know, my parents were massive C As some of you may know, my parents were massive Coca-Cola collectors. They pared down their collection over the years, but the love for the carbonated beverage remained. When I was in kindergarten my aunt got my mom and I matching Coca-Cola swimsuits, and when visiting my mom I found both hers (worn here) and mine, which I plan to put on a stuffed animal. Then in 1998 my dad and I went to Las Vegas, it was during that weird era when Vegas tried to go family friendly, and we went to what was then known as The World of Coca-Cola, an amazing interactive museum. I vividly remember the bottle elevator that made the sound of a bottle being opened when you rode. The dressing room was a Coke glass and when you entered it made the sound of clinking ice and pouring soda. I got this jacket during the visit, but left it at my mom’s when I went away to college. She kept it for me, and it still fits! So of course I had to wear both for a day in Vegas. Sadly the World of Coca-Cola is just the Coca-Cola Store now, but it still offers soda from around the world!

Recently went ax throwing with @cemeterytourguide Recently went ax throwing with @cemeterytourguide and @drunkensquid at @moshouseofaxe . I HIGHLY recommend this place! It is like a mix of Clifton’s and Doug Fur (literally one of the few places form PDX I miss) but with axes. It’s a great place for socializing, releasing frustrations, and amazing food. I look forward to many returns. 🪓
