As mentioned earlier, I’ve been doing a lot of sewing lately since the COVID-19 outbreak. One of the projects I’ve had on the books is a Star Wars sheet dress for Star Wars Celebration later this year. However since it is uncertain if Celebration will happen or not, I decided to share my creation today for May the Fourth, a day that has kind of turned into an unofficial Star Wars holiday because of its similarity to the phrase “May the Force be with you.”

My dad mailed me my brother’s old Star Wars bedding a couple months ago, along with some of my own childhood bedding, so I have more sheets to make dresses from! I was really drawn to the warm colors of the Return of the Jedi set, and was immediately inspired by the image of Vader and the Red Guards as a perfect bodice front.

Also to celebrate May the Fourth, some of my other fashionable Star Wars loving friends were recently interviewed for Temple of Geek chic. You can read it here.
I hope everyone is staying safe, and sane, during this difficult time. It seems like sewing is the only thing keeping me sane! I’ve ordered more fabric, have a pattern to make Patrick some shirts, and thankfully our local fabric store has reopened with social-distancing conditions. I still have yet to venture out to it, because I thankfully don’t need anything at the moment, but it’s good to know it’s open if and when I need it, and that they are taking precautions to stay safe.
What is keeping you going during this wild time?

Wow! That came out marvelous!!! I love how you did the bodice. Happy May the 4th with you 🙂
Thank you!
The colors really are great in this print, and it must be so fun to discover all the details in the full design! I love the belt choice here too. Sewing is totally keeping me sane as well, keeping my hands busy and mind just occupied enough it can’t go running off too far overthinking everything like it wants to these days <3
Thank you! And, yes, exactly! It gives one something to focus on!
Wonderful dress, Janey – great job! The belt is a lovely finishing touch.
Thank you!
The placement on the bodice is perfect!!!!
Thank you!
Out-of-this-world cool! Love the lines of this dress, very much including the neckline and fullness of skirt.

Thank you very much!
What a great way to use this fabric! Since I’m assuming you don’t still want Star Wars bedding 🙂 I love the placement of Darth Vader front and centre!
Love this! How large were the sheets? Eg are two twin sheets enough or do you need a full sheet to make a dress? Funny enough I just saw an amazing miss piggy dress made of sheets and now I want to put that on my to be on the lookout for list. 😁
Thank you! They were twin sheets, and I used both the top and bottom sheets. The pattern I use and my size requires over 3 yards of fabric.
And yes! I see it done a lot with Disney sheets, which I have some of those as well. It’s a fun way to create something new out of fabric that isn’t getting used.
