I was at a Halloween event when I was introduced to the stunning woman of this book. We met through a mutual friend, and I instantly was in awe of her beauty and her incredibly kind and bubbly personality. I learned she was a make-up artist, and over the years have become her friend and been witness to her magical and beautiful make-up creations. When she announced she was writing a Halloween make-up book, I knew it was going to be good, and when she asked me to review it, I was absolutely overjoyed!
Ghoulish Glamour features step-by-step how-tos for five different looks; skull, vampire, clown, ghost, and starlet. Each have Blondie’s unique take, and I especially loved her glittering take on the classic clown look, which elevates it from the average to the fantastical. Her starlet look is perfect for those who want a high-glam vintage look for any day of the year too! High-glam holidays such as Christmas and New Year’s Even are right around the corner! I especially loved the starlet instructions because it gave me some tips I can incorporate into some of my regular looks. But since this the Halloween season, I wanted to try my hand at a classic look, and chose to tackle the skull.
I’ve always struggled with make-up, and have never ever attempted a full face paint on myself or anyone else, so I’m glad I had Blondie’s guidance to get through it. Each look has its own list of what you need to have before getting started, and she also offers alternatives if you can’t get your hands on some items. Which I’m thankful for, as I opted to use face paint for both the black and white portions.
While I did struggle with this, it’s through not fault of Blondie. Her instructions were great and aided by step-by-step photos help guide you through the process. But you have to remember, this was my first ever face paint, I struggle with regular make-up application (I can’t put eyeliner on my lower lid to save my life) and I’m near-sighted, so I had to do a lot of this without my glasses. On some of the areas that were a little rough, I added a few more cracks.
In the book Blondie showcases this make-up with the eyes open and closed. Closed really sells the full skull idea, so I did most photos that way. We snapped these in our front yard, which we decorated for Halloween, so you get a little peek at that!
What I love even more is that this book is 100% Blondie, she did all of her own make-up on herself, took her own photos, and published on her own, which I think is beyond awesome. You can only purchase Ghoulish Glamour through Amazon Kindle. You don’t need a Kindle to get access to this fab book, as the app is free for your computer and other devices.
