For one reason or another, the month of August always reminds me of the south. Perhaps it’s that it tends to get more humid in late summer, or that I begin to start thinking about the Halloween season, which lends itself to the eeriness of the south. I find myself rewatching films and shows that take place in New Orleans, reading Swamp Thing, pining for cajun food, and listening to bluegrass throughout the month. I began dubbing this time period “Swamp Witch Summer” And when it comes to living in southern California, what better place to really feel the swamp witch vibes than New Orleans Square? Patrick and I went for breakfast recently, as I am much more of a morning person for Disneyland than I am anything else, okay, flea markets get me up early too.

I guess I may of swamp witch summer’ed too hard, because as some of you might know southern California recently experienced Hurricane Hilary, which dumped about two years worth of rain over just one day. While we fared just fine in the storm, others did not. Friends in the high desert faced flash flooding and deteriorated roads, while some in LA had flooding in their homes.
September arrives this week, and with in a friend’s wedding that I’m in, and when we return I’ll be hauling in the Halloween decorations! Are you still clinging to summer? Or are you excited for the arrival of fall?
