A Showgirl’s Treasures

The other day I received a text message from my dear friend Eric, the Knott’s Berry Farm historian, informing me of an estate sale here in Anaheim of a former Knott’s employee, and that I might find some interesting stuff. Already en route to go thrifting that day, I abruptly changed course and made my…

I honestly can’t believe Halloween is tomorrow! This spooky season has really flown by for us as we have been very busy! As some of you know, Patrick and I volunteer for the Anaheim Fall Festival and Halloween Parade, which occurred last weekend. A lot goes into it, and we’ve been working hard since late…

I know things have been quiet for awhile, and you’re about to find out why! First, Patrick and I have been spending a great deal of our time volunteering for the Anaheim Fall Festival and Halloween Parade. Long time readers of the blog are familiar with Anaheim’s unique 100 year old tradition. Every so often…

Celebrating 100 Years of Halloween Fun in Anaheim

November 1, 2023, 2 Comments on Celebrating 100 Years of Halloween Fun in Anaheim

Last weekend Patrick and I got to participate in celebrating a 100 year old tradition here in Anaheim, the Anaheim Fall Festival! This year we were more involved than ever. From creating floats, to packing for and setting up the festival, to being in the parade itself! Due to the chaos there isn’t as many…

Looking back at Halloween in Anaheim

September 28, 2023, Leave a Comment on Looking back at Halloween in Anaheim

This year mark’s the 100th anniversary of Anaheim’s Fall Festival, and to celebrate this occasion, the Muzeo has put together not one, but two exhibits showcasing not only Anaheim’s Halloween history, but some Halloween’s earliest traditions in a unique antique postcard exhibit. Halloween at the turn of the 20th century looked much different than today,…

Working on a 100 Year Old Anaheim Halloween Tradition

August 2, 2023, 2 Comments on Working on a 100 Year Old Anaheim Halloween Tradition

It may only be August, but trust me, Halloween is on the minds of many! Including Patrick and myself. Lately we have been spending our weekends volunteering to prepare for the Anaheim Fall Festival and Parade, and it’s a big deal this year, because the Fall Festival turns 100! I hope to do a large…

The 99th Annual Anaheim Halloween Parade

November 2, 2022, Leave a Comment on The 99th Annual Anaheim Halloween Parade

After much anticipation and two altered formats, the Anaheim Fall Festival and Halloween Parade returned to the streets of Anaheim last weekend, and what a night! Typically I love to show off a cute autumnal outfit and offer up some of the fall-tastic sights of the festival and parade, but this year we were a…

On the Hunt for the Anaheim Halloween Parade

November 2, 2021, 2 Comments on On the Hunt for the Anaheim Halloween Parade

Every Saturday before Halloween since 1924 Anaheim has hosted a Halloween parade, however, like with many things, COVID has thrown a wrench in tradition. Last year they opted for a drive-thru experience, or a reverse parade (as I called it) where the parade floats were stationary and we drove by them. This year they tried…

Anaheim Halloween Parade – Drive Thru Style

October 28, 2020, 3 Comments on Anaheim Halloween Parade – Drive Thru Style

I’m lucky enough to live in a town that has a Halloween parade every year. Under normal circumstances, there is a fall festival during the day before the parade starts. The festival is full of games, artists selling their unique works, and live music. Then as the sun sets the parade, with its collection of…

This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basi This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basically just to eat as much holiday food as we could. It’s been on the chilly for us in California, so I bundled up but wanted to stay comfy, and ended up looking like a David Crosby groupie. Not a bad look for throwing it together at 6 am! From the Holiday Beef Dinner Potato to the gingerbread cookies (the best ones are from Harbor Galley!) to the Cranberry Pomegranate Mint Julep (it’s no Watermelon Julep but it’s still tasty!) we filled our bellies right as it started to sprinkle.

It took over a week to be able to come up with coh It took over a week to be able to come up with coherent words for how I’m feeling after the election. Over on the blog you can find a list of institutions Patrick and I currently support or have previously supported. They offer aid to various threatened groups, provide resources, teaching tools, and ways you can be active. Link can be found in stories and bio!

Also this isn’t Philly! It’s Knott’s Berry Farm! Need a reminder of democracy, visit Knott’s Berry Farm’s recreation of Independence Hall. It’s free to visit! It was also used in National Treasure! Which came out 20 years ago today!
November so far. I can’t believe November is over November so far. I can’t believe November is over half over. I haven’t been able to blog for several reasons. 1. Both Pat and I caught a cold. Yes, a cold. We tested for COVID multiple times and were negative. 2. The election. Reflections on which will be shared this week on the blog. 3. We have started our office renovation. Well I guess we completed Phase 2. Phase 1 was when we build the wall. Anyway, we painted, laid carpet down, and moved some stuff around. Phase 3 will be making a custom corner wall unit. Meanwhile I finally packed the last Halloween box today. It was the bathroom decor, and began to deep clean. I hope to haul in the Christmas decor this week. How about y’all? How are you holding up? Have you decorated for the holidays?
We need each other more than ever now. We can be s We need each other more than ever now. We can be scared. I am the most scared I’ve ever been in my whole life. We can take today to rest and mourn. My simple advice is look around you. Find those you trust. Build a better community and future with them. And with them we will fight. We must never stop fighting to create a place where everyone is equal. If you learn of protests, groups, programs, anything, that helps others, post it, share it, encourage people to attend, and attend yourself.
So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. G So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. Get involved in your community. Create positive change on your own street. Make a space that is welcoming and inclusive. 💙
Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all s Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all seriousness, black cats are some of the best cats around. They are not bad luck and they are NOT to be used as live, temporary Halloween decorations. A very tragic reality, and a contributing factor to why they are often not available for adoption during October. Sadly because of superstition black cats are the least adopted, and make up roughly a third of the cats available for adoption. So please consider adopting one if you’re looking for a furry companion! They are incredibly affectionate and fun loving! 🐈‍⬛

We celebrated the centennial of our parade, quite the milestone! @patrickarlt and I took on a lot more responsibilities and it added to our growing sense of community here in Anaheim.
