Sleep like Gene Autry at the Pioneertown Motel

March 15, 2019, Leave a Comment on Sleep like Gene Autry at the Pioneertown Motel

After Patrick wrapped up his conference in Palm Springs, we headed to the high desert to spend a couple of nights at the Pioneertown Motel. Long time readers may be familiar with previous visits to Pioneertown, a real town originally built as a live-in backlot of sorts made exclusively for westerns back in 1946. But…

The Return of Adventureland Day

March 5, 2019, 3 Comments on The Return of Adventureland Day

As it is already well established, I love Disneyland and a good theme, so I was overjoyed when I heard that Adventureland Day (put together by Tiki Tony), one of the newest unofficial theme days, was returning. The event encourages Guests to embrace all things Adventureland whether it is with tiki-tastic clothing, safari-wear (or adventurer…

Valentine’s Month at Disneyland

January 25, 2019, 2 Comments on Valentine’s Month at Disneyland

This year Disneyland introduced “Valentine’s Month” to the park with extra decor, special food items, and even a scavenger hunt to celebrate the holiday of love. I’ve always enjoyed a good scavenger hunt, so Patrick and I went over to the park for the day to experience it. For those familiar with Disneyland’s Easter Egg…

Our 1954 Home: Backyard

November 29, 2018, 12 Comments on Our 1954 Home: Backyard

We’ve been in our home a little over a year now, and, with some minor exceptions, we just now finished up our backyard, and I am happy to finally share it on the blog! From the get-go, many people were interested in what our backyard looked like, but I kept it hidden for the most…

A Visit to the Nursery

August 9, 2018, 1 Comment on A Visit to the Nursery

When we bought our house, and it’s hard to believe we are nearing one year of home ownership, we had an almost barren backyard. Aside from some large bushes, a guava tree, and a large cluster of agaves, we had no grass, and a bunch of empty beds along the edge of the house. We…

The Hidden Remains of M*A*S*H in Malibu Creek Park

May 22, 2018, 3 Comments on The Hidden Remains of M*A*S*H in Malibu Creek Park

I watched a lot of the channel TV Land as a kid, and one of my favorite shows was M * A * S * H, which revolved around the 4077th mobile army surgical hospital (that’s what “MASH” stands for in case you were wondering) in Korea during the Korean War. At some point I learned…

Bronson Canyon – The Batcave and More

February 6, 2018, 1 Comment on Bronson Canyon – The Batcave and More

Over the years on the blog, I have made my love of two particular TV shows, Batman and The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., very apparent, whether through cosplay, cons, museum visits, or filming locations. One thing these two shows have in common is the use of the Bronson Canyon and Caves as a filming…

Christmas in Frontierland

December 29, 2017, 1 Comment on Christmas in Frontierland

Like spending Christmas Eve at Knott’s Berry Farm as become a tradition, spending Christmas Day at Disneyland is also one for us. It’s one of the few places open on Christmas, and while it’s usually very busy, we always enjoy ourselves. I thought it was also a perfect opportunity to wear my vintage Guatemalan Weavers…

Windy Day in Joshua Tree

December 19, 2016, 3 Comments on Windy Day in Joshua Tree

In my last post I mentioned Patrick and I spent a couple days out in Joshua Tree. Even though it was crazy windy out, we spent a day visiting the unique shops around Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley. I came home with a few treasures before we called it a day, including a great 70s…

It’s so beautiful I could cry! 😭My dad recent It’s so beautiful I could cry! 😭My dad recently scored me autographs from one of my favorite bands, The Flying Burrito Brothers. Normally I don’t care for contract or check signatures, but Gram’s life was so short, I would take anything. This contract is especially interesting though because it is from Gram’s time with The International Submarine Band (pre-Burritos), and when Monte Kay was their manager, who founded the iconic jazz club Birdland in NYC. Now to figure out how I’m going to frame all of this! 🤔

As some of you may know, my parents were massive C As some of you may know, my parents were massive Coca-Cola collectors. They pared down their collection over the years, but the love for the carbonated beverage remained. When I was in kindergarten my aunt got my mom and I matching Coca-Cola swimsuits, and when visiting my mom I found both hers (worn here) and mine, which I plan to put on a stuffed animal. Then in 1998 my dad and I went to Las Vegas, it was during that weird era when Vegas tried to go family friendly, and we went to what was then known as The World of Coca-Cola, an amazing interactive museum. I vividly remember the bottle elevator that made the sound of a bottle being opened when you rode. The dressing room was a Coke glass and when you entered it made the sound of clinking ice and pouring soda. I got this jacket during the visit, but left it at my mom’s when I went away to college. She kept it for me, and it still fits! So of course I had to wear both for a day in Vegas. Sadly the World of Coca-Cola is just the Coca-Cola Store now, but it still offers soda from around the world!
