Behind the Curtain of the Museum of Neon Art at Their Warehouse

May 11, 2023, Leave a Comment on Behind the Curtain of the Museum of Neon Art at Their Warehouse

As some of you know, one of my favorite museums in Southern California is the Museum of Neon Art in Glendale. As amazing as the museum is, it’s quite small, and neon signs tend to be quite big, so it’s no surprise the museum has a warehouse where they house signs not currently on display,…

The Neon Gods We Made – Revisiting the Los Angeles Neon Cruise

September 21, 2022, 3 Comments on The Neon Gods We Made – Revisiting the Los Angeles Neon Cruise

Unless you’re super new to the blog, then you know I adore neon. There is something about the almost alchemy like art that is neon, and I love seeing it. One of the best ways to see the neon of Los Angeles in the wild is by taking the Neon Cruise, offered by the Museum…

Exploring Koreatown’s Past with the King of Neon

May 26, 2021, 2 Comments on Exploring Koreatown’s Past with the King of Neon

One of my favorite places is the Museum of Neon Art, which saves neon signs in addition to displaying contemporary works by neon artists, and even offering classes to keep the art of neon alive. Additionally, they offer amazing tours, which are typically done via a double decker bus. However, due to COVID they have…

Book Review: Spectacular Illumination

May 6, 2020, 3 Comments on Book Review: Spectacular Illumination

In addition to sewing, I’ve been spending a good deal of time outside reading, and recently I finished Spectacular Illumination: Neon Los Angeles 1925-1965. I’ve always been a fan of neon, and if you’ve been reading the blog for any length of time, then you know that! When I saw this book for sale the…

Electric Paradise – The Los Angeles Neon Cruise

July 24, 2019, 1 Comment on Electric Paradise – The Los Angeles Neon Cruise

The Museum of Neon Art feels like a museum that was made for me. Not only does it restore, house, and exhibit some of the finest works of neon signage, it also offers the Neon Cruise, an incredibly unique tour of Los Angeles showcasing some of the city’s most fantastic neon signs. As sun set,…

Museum of Neon Art

June 21, 2016, 6 Comments on Museum of Neon Art

Over the weekend Patrick and I spent a day shopping in Burbank (I came home with quite a few goodies which will show up sooner or later on the blog, I’m sure) followed by a visit to the Museum of Neon Art. I would likely say that signage from the mid-20th century is my favorite…

It’s so beautiful I could cry! 😭My dad recent It’s so beautiful I could cry! 😭My dad recently scored me autographs from one of my favorite bands, The Flying Burrito Brothers. Normally I don’t care for contract or check signatures, but Gram’s life was so short, I would take anything. This contract is especially interesting though because it is from Gram’s time with The International Submarine Band (pre-Burritos), and when Monte Kay was their manager, who founded the iconic jazz club Birdland in NYC. Now to figure out how I’m going to frame all of this! 🤔

As some of you may know, my parents were massive C As some of you may know, my parents were massive Coca-Cola collectors. They pared down their collection over the years, but the love for the carbonated beverage remained. When I was in kindergarten my aunt got my mom and I matching Coca-Cola swimsuits, and when visiting my mom I found both hers (worn here) and mine, which I plan to put on a stuffed animal. Then in 1998 my dad and I went to Las Vegas, it was during that weird era when Vegas tried to go family friendly, and we went to what was then known as The World of Coca-Cola, an amazing interactive museum. I vividly remember the bottle elevator that made the sound of a bottle being opened when you rode. The dressing room was a Coke glass and when you entered it made the sound of clinking ice and pouring soda. I got this jacket during the visit, but left it at my mom’s when I went away to college. She kept it for me, and it still fits! So of course I had to wear both for a day in Vegas. Sadly the World of Coca-Cola is just the Coca-Cola Store now, but it still offers soda from around the world!
