Like many, the pandemic really changed our lives. First, our social scene changed dramatically. We have fewer people staying with us and having a dedicated guest room began to feel like a waste of space. Second, after years and years of working out off and on, I finally settled into a nice routine. Third, Patrick…

Late last year Patrick and I started on several house projects, most of which involved painting. We painted the newly built wall (which you got to see in our Christmas decor post), we painted the former guest room (you can check out that reveal here), we painted the hall bathroom (a room that still needs…

Patrick and I aim to do one or two big house projects each year, and we were on the verge of rebuilding the wall between the living room and office, with a list of contractors to call for estimates and then the pandemic hit. While construction is of course an essential business, it wasn’t like…

Earlier I mentioned that Patrick and I were revamping our patio, and today I’m excited to share what it looks like, along with some other changes to our backyard! When we moved in our backyard featured lots of mature plants, but no grass. After planting grass we realized there was a portion of our backyard…

You’ve seen the kitchen here and there on the blog, in the background of various posts and in my Cooking with Vincent series, but today we are finally giving it a proper post all its own because we recently did a (partial) kitchen redo! Our kitchen is directly behind our fireplace, which sits in the…

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a look at our home, and it’s for a variety of reasons. We only have so much money that we can put towards home improvements each year, and I was waiting on two very specific things before sharing our living room, and while everything isn’t exactly how I would…

Never Too Many Christmas Trees

December 4, 2019, 10 Comments on Never Too Many Christmas Trees

It’s hard to believe it’s December. I feel like Halloween was just last week! We recently decorated the house for Christmas, which took a little longer than last year, as between then and now we acquired another vintage aluminum Christmas tree, a four foot gold tree. So this year we decided to move out some…

How to (Mostly) Cat Proof Your Christmas Tree

December 13, 2018, 3 Comments on How to (Mostly) Cat Proof Your Christmas Tree

Every year around Christmastime, the internet is flooded with pictures and stories of cats terrorizing Christmas trees. I had cats growing up, and they simply loved climbing up into the branches of our trees. We had both fake and real trees over the years, and the cats loved both equally. The following is a guide…

Deck the Halls…er, Yard

December 11, 2018, 7 Comments on Deck the Halls…er, Yard

Growing up, my dad always went all out for Christmas, both inside and outside. When it came to the outside, we had a combination of vintage wooden pieces lighted by flood lights and the lighted classic blow mold plastic, and the roof was edged in those iconic large bulbs, which I later learned were called…

November things. The boys tried to help decorate f November things. The boys tried to help decorate for Christmas, so things have taken way longer than I thought. Friends are the best. Disneyland surprises. And a new car!
This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basi This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basically just to eat as much holiday food as we could. It’s been on the chilly for us in California, so I bundled up but wanted to stay comfy, and ended up looking like a David Crosby groupie. Not a bad look for throwing it together at 6 am! From the Holiday Beef Dinner Potato to the gingerbread cookies (the best ones are from Harbor Galley!) to the Cranberry Pomegranate Mint Julep (it’s no Watermelon Julep but it’s still tasty!) we filled our bellies right as it started to sprinkle.

It took over a week to be able to come up with coh It took over a week to be able to come up with coherent words for how I’m feeling after the election. Over on the blog you can find a list of institutions Patrick and I currently support or have previously supported. They offer aid to various threatened groups, provide resources, teaching tools, and ways you can be active. Link can be found in stories and bio!

Also this isn’t Philly! It’s Knott’s Berry Farm! Need a reminder of democracy, visit Knott’s Berry Farm’s recreation of Independence Hall. It’s free to visit! It was also used in National Treasure! Which came out 20 years ago today!
November so far. I can’t believe November is over November so far. I can’t believe November is over half over. I haven’t been able to blog for several reasons. 1. Both Pat and I caught a cold. Yes, a cold. We tested for COVID multiple times and were negative. 2. The election. Reflections on which will be shared this week on the blog. 3. We have started our office renovation. Well I guess we completed Phase 2. Phase 1 was when we build the wall. Anyway, we painted, laid carpet down, and moved some stuff around. Phase 3 will be making a custom corner wall unit. Meanwhile I finally packed the last Halloween box today. It was the bathroom decor, and began to deep clean. I hope to haul in the Christmas decor this week. How about y’all? How are you holding up? Have you decorated for the holidays?
We need each other more than ever now. We can be s We need each other more than ever now. We can be scared. I am the most scared I’ve ever been in my whole life. We can take today to rest and mourn. My simple advice is look around you. Find those you trust. Build a better community and future with them. And with them we will fight. We must never stop fighting to create a place where everyone is equal. If you learn of protests, groups, programs, anything, that helps others, post it, share it, encourage people to attend, and attend yourself.
So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. G So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. Get involved in your community. Create positive change on your own street. Make a space that is welcoming and inclusive. 💙
Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all s Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all seriousness, black cats are some of the best cats around. They are not bad luck and they are NOT to be used as live, temporary Halloween decorations. A very tragic reality, and a contributing factor to why they are often not available for adoption during October. Sadly because of superstition black cats are the least adopted, and make up roughly a third of the cats available for adoption. So please consider adopting one if you’re looking for a furry companion! They are incredibly affectionate and fun loving! 🐈‍⬛
I can’t believe the @anaheimhalloweenparade is ove I can’t believe the @anaheimhalloweenparade is over. We celebrated the centennial of our parade, quite the milestone! @patrickarlt and I took on a lot more responsibilities and it added to our growing sense of community here in Anaheim. While it may be over for another year, many of our volunteers are already hard at work seeking ways to improve our event for next year! 🎃 I dived a little more into all that Pat and I took on over on the blog! You can find a link in my bio! 🖤
