Revisiting the Las Vegas Neon Museum

June 19, 2023, 3 Comments on Revisiting the Las Vegas Neon Museum

Back in 2017 Patrick and I visited the Las Vegas Neon Museum, and had an absolute blast, taking both their daytime and nighttime tours. Recently they added a “Photo Walk” option, which is a time for photographers to have respectful free-reign (no touching of the signs!) of the boneyard, and since Patrick has gotten more…

One-of-a-Kind Roadside Sights from Oregon, Idaho & Utah

June 9, 2023, 3 Comments on One-of-a-Kind Roadside Sights from Oregon, Idaho & Utah

After Nevada, we continued briefly into Oregon before arriving at our destination of Idaho. While visiting with my mother, we still took some time to drive around and I found so many great signs and more! After wrapping up our visit, we drove into Utah before eventually arriving in Vegas. So today I bring you…

More than Las Vegas: Neon Gems of Nevada

June 5, 2023, 2 Comments on More than Las Vegas: Neon Gems of Nevada

Never go on a road trip with me unless you’re prepared to pull off the road whenever I see a neon sign, abandoned building, or something weird. When Patrick and I weren’t on freeways, we took many backroads and old highways during our trip, and even though we had made this drive before, we still…

Behind the Curtain of the Museum of Neon Art at Their Warehouse

May 11, 2023, Leave a Comment on Behind the Curtain of the Museum of Neon Art at Their Warehouse

As some of you know, one of my favorite museums in Southern California is the Museum of Neon Art in Glendale. As amazing as the museum is, it’s quite small, and neon signs tend to be quite big, so it’s no surprise the museum has a warehouse where they house signs not currently on display,…

The Remnants, Remains, and Random Snapshots of 2022

February 1, 2023, 1 Comment on The Remnants, Remains, and Random Snapshots of 2022

Sometimes when Patrick and I go out we find ourselves pulling over when we spy a vintage sign, or a unique or abandoned building. Often these places never have enough meat to them for their very own post (and more often than not, the photos get forgotten about as a result), or they get relegated…

The Neon Gods We Made – Revisiting the Los Angeles Neon Cruise

September 21, 2022, 3 Comments on The Neon Gods We Made – Revisiting the Los Angeles Neon Cruise

Unless you’re super new to the blog, then you know I adore neon. There is something about the almost alchemy like art that is neon, and I love seeing it. One of the best ways to see the neon of Los Angeles in the wild is by taking the Neon Cruise, offered by the Museum…

I Pulled Over for This! Neon Lights and More from our Bay Area Road Trip

July 19, 2022, 1 Comment on I Pulled Over for This! Neon Lights and More from our Bay Area Road Trip

Sometimes when out and about I stumble across a neat sign or abandoned building, a place really cool to look at, but perhaps not much more than that and doesn’t need a blog post all to itself. This is always the case with road trips, so today I bring you a round up of some…

En route to Calico Ghost Town you pass by the Jenny Rose Restaurant. With its massive neon heart sign, it certainly catches the eye, whether you’re on Ghost Town Road or on Interstate 15. But don’t expect to grab a bite to eat here, as a burger hasn’t be served here for sometime, and the…

Photo Essay: Americana Through the Eyes of a 16 Year Old

January 26, 2022, 8 Comments on Photo Essay: Americana Through the Eyes of a 16 Year Old

Recently Patrick and I went did a massive clean out and reorganization of our garage. Part of it involved me sifting through boxes of photos. Yes, real, glossy, shot on film type of photos. Growing up in the infancy of digital photography means my early memories were captured on film, and I learned the ropes…

Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood Filming Locations

August 25, 2021, 3 Comments on Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood Filming Locations

Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood has quickly become one of my all time favorite movies. Quinten Tanatino’s love letter to late 1960s LA is full of wonderful details and used many beloved SoCal institutions, including a number that are accessible to the film buff! While many of the locations in the film, they “play themselves”…

November things. The boys tried to help decorate f November things. The boys tried to help decorate for Christmas, so things have taken way longer than I thought. Friends are the best. Disneyland surprises. And a new car!
This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basi This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basically just to eat as much holiday food as we could. It’s been on the chilly for us in California, so I bundled up but wanted to stay comfy, and ended up looking like a David Crosby groupie. Not a bad look for throwing it together at 6 am! From the Holiday Beef Dinner Potato to the gingerbread cookies (the best ones are from Harbor Galley!) to the Cranberry Pomegranate Mint Julep (it’s no Watermelon Julep but it’s still tasty!) we filled our bellies right as it started to sprinkle.

It took over a week to be able to come up with coh It took over a week to be able to come up with coherent words for how I’m feeling after the election. Over on the blog you can find a list of institutions Patrick and I currently support or have previously supported. They offer aid to various threatened groups, provide resources, teaching tools, and ways you can be active. Link can be found in stories and bio!

Also this isn’t Philly! It’s Knott’s Berry Farm! Need a reminder of democracy, visit Knott’s Berry Farm’s recreation of Independence Hall. It’s free to visit! It was also used in National Treasure! Which came out 20 years ago today!
November so far. I can’t believe November is over November so far. I can’t believe November is over half over. I haven’t been able to blog for several reasons. 1. Both Pat and I caught a cold. Yes, a cold. We tested for COVID multiple times and were negative. 2. The election. Reflections on which will be shared this week on the blog. 3. We have started our office renovation. Well I guess we completed Phase 2. Phase 1 was when we build the wall. Anyway, we painted, laid carpet down, and moved some stuff around. Phase 3 will be making a custom corner wall unit. Meanwhile I finally packed the last Halloween box today. It was the bathroom decor, and began to deep clean. I hope to haul in the Christmas decor this week. How about y’all? How are you holding up? Have you decorated for the holidays?
We need each other more than ever now. We can be s We need each other more than ever now. We can be scared. I am the most scared I’ve ever been in my whole life. We can take today to rest and mourn. My simple advice is look around you. Find those you trust. Build a better community and future with them. And with them we will fight. We must never stop fighting to create a place where everyone is equal. If you learn of protests, groups, programs, anything, that helps others, post it, share it, encourage people to attend, and attend yourself.
So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. G So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. Get involved in your community. Create positive change on your own street. Make a space that is welcoming and inclusive. 💙
Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all s Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all seriousness, black cats are some of the best cats around. They are not bad luck and they are NOT to be used as live, temporary Halloween decorations. A very tragic reality, and a contributing factor to why they are often not available for adoption during October. Sadly because of superstition black cats are the least adopted, and make up roughly a third of the cats available for adoption. So please consider adopting one if you’re looking for a furry companion! They are incredibly affectionate and fun loving! 🐈‍⬛

We celebrated the centennial of our parade, quite the milestone! @patrickarlt and I took on a lot more responsibilities and it added to our growing sense of community here in Anaheim. While it may be over for another year, many of our volunteers are already hard at work seeking ways to improve our event for next year! 🎃 I dived a little more into all that Pat and I took on over on the blog! You can find a link in my bio! 🖤
