Knott’s Berry Farm at Home
When Knott’s Berry Farm first opened, it was just that, a berry farm, with a little roadside stand selling its berries. Later the Knott family built a permanent Berry Market, followed by a Tea Room which expanded into Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner we know today. Recently, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Knott’s Berry Farm has returned to being just that, a Berry Market and serving up fried chicken, and over the weekend, we went to pick up some boysenberry goodies and fried chicken.
Due to strict social distancing implementations to curb COVID-19 cases, Knott’s Berry Farm, the amusement park, cannot operate, however, it has reopened its Berry Market, bakery, and Chicken-To-Go, allowing customers to take a bit of the Farm home with them in a variety of ways. For the first time ever, Knott’s has opened an on-line marketplace, where you can purchase the famed jam (To be clear, the jam that features the Knott name found in grocery stores is not associated with the Farm any longer, it is produced by Smuckers who purchased the right to use the name, their version contains high-fructose corn syrup, while the “Berry Market” brand, produced by and available exclusively at the Farm contains real sugar), boysenberry BBQ sauce, boysenberry punch concentrate, baking mixes, their newly published cookbook, and much more! The items can be delivered to your door, or, for locals, are available for curbside pick-up or walk-in, but please maintain proper social distancing guidelines! Knott’s also recently published a cookbook full of recipes direct from the Farm, including the famed fried chicken, and even some of the boysenberry cocktails.
Locals craving chicken, can also pre-order chicken on-line and pick it up, or walk-in is also available, although, from what I’ve been seeing on social media, the wait can be quite long!
We ordered some goodies from both the marketplace orders and chicken, and chose curbside pick-up, and it was extremely easy to do, just read the info for curbside pick-up ahead of time! After venturing out (wearing masks, of course), we returned home to naw on chicken (our first food out since the shelter-in-place order) and baked up some boysenberry muffins. The muffins from the mix were really easy to make, and they turned out beautiful and tasty!
Despite also getting our hands on the Knott’s Berry Farm Cookbook, we didn’t try our hand at some of the recipes, as we are running low on some groceries and trying to hold off until next week to go shopping. But I hope to whip something up from it soon! It’s a beautifully styled book, with easy to read recipes, and several history tid-bits and vintage photos!
Needless to say, I am missing the Farm terribly. They recently announced that the highly anticipated 100th Anniversary Celebration will be postponed until next year (in my opinion that’s even better, as the Knott family arrived in Buena Park in December of 1920, so 1921 was really their first full year!) and the award-winning, interactive summer event Ghost Town Alive will not occur this year, but will return next year. As always, Knott’s Berry Farm’s website is the best place for up-to-date information.
For more details on procuring some poultry as well as berry treats, I highly recommend reading this post by LittleGrayThread, a fellow Knott’s Berry Farm Ambassador.

This is wonderful, Janey! Loving that you’re doing Knott’s at home. We should all have a little bit of our favorite places & food in our kitchens (and tummies)!
Thank you!
Those muffins look delicious
Janey, your muffins look amazing! Thank you for doing this post. I did not know they were doing mail order (Im in Northern Calif)! I just went on their site and ordered some goodies. They were out of the muffin mix but I did get a couple cans of the berries to make my own muffins. I also ordered the cookbook and of course some jam. I am SO grateful for your blog and the comfort it provides in these unsettling times. You are the best!
Thank you!! I am so glad you found some goodies!
Your berry studded muffins look sooo tasty! And that cookbook, with its vintage photos, is completely up my alley, too.
Thank you for this yummy post. I will be craving boysenberries big time now. 😀
Autumn Zenith 🎃 Witchcrafted Life
I am glad you went over! My daughter, son-in-law and I went yesterday for a walk in as it was my daughter’s birthday. Weekdays are NOT as crowded as weekends and it was very easy to keep our social distance. They have everything very well planned for safe handling and check out. We, of course, picked up one of the bucket meals to bring home and eat along with a Boysenberry pie! Everything was so yummy. There was no wait to order the chicken. We also purchased items from the Marketplace along with the cookbook. Looking forward to going through it.
So went through the cookbook the morning and it is so well done. Well worth the $20 cost! Loved all the history Eric put in there. Recipes look easy and doable. And as one who reads everything what a nice surprise to see your name listed in the back in the credits. Well done Janey 🙂
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!! And yes, I had a small role in proofing the book.
Those muffins look divine! It’s been ages since I’ve visited Knott’s Berry Farm, but we went quite a bit when I was kid, growing up in San Diego. Hopefully when we get to visit California again, we’ll make a trip and explore it again.
