The Happy Little Neon Dachshund of Larry’s Chili Dog

A good way to get me to go to nearly any restaurant is a killer neon sign, so when I spied Larry’s Chili Dog one day in Burbank I knew I had to visit, because it has absolutely one of the cutest neon sign’s I’ve ever seen!

The Larry's neon sign sits at the corner of a fenced off outdoor eating area for Larry's, which features several picnic tables with red and white umbrellas near the outdoor order and pick-up windows. A large sign on the roof features a cartoon dog and reads "Larry's"

The order window is trimmed in red and sit within a bright yellow building. A small menu board to the right of the order window reads "Specials Hamburger Cheeseburger Double Cheeseburger Chili Dogs Chili Cheese Dog All Combos Come with Frights & Soft Tree Ask for Upgrades.

Larry’s Chili Dog has been around since 1953 and the darling little dachshund in the bun was there from day one, beckoning customers with a wag of his tail. Yes, even in the daytime you can see that his tail was indeed animated, as there are little neon loops outside of the bun. While originally only serving chili dogs and hot dogs, it has expanded its menu over the years, and now includes burgers, burritos and more. Regularly landing on “best chili dog” lists in the Los Angeles area, it’s a must visit if you’re a fan of dogs, both the eatable and furry kind!

Sadly, I failed to ask if the sign still lights up, but here’s hoping, and one day I would love to see his little tail in action. And if they day comes Larry’s ever closes up shop, I hope this sign finds a home at the Museum of Neon Art.
