Cowboy Christmas Vol. 2

I can’t believe December begins next week! I haven’t even finished decorating for Christmas! Between entertaining out of town guests and Orville’s Rodeo I started rather late decorating! But you know what always helps me get in the mood for decorating? Christmas music! This year I’m bringing you another round of cowboy Christmas tunes!

“Cowboy Santa Claus” Prairie Ramblers

In this song, Santa hails from Santa Fe and rides a bronco instead of a sleigh.

“When It’s Christmas on the Range” Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys

Bob Wills is often labeled the King of Western Swing, and this tune is for those who enjoy a softer serenade for their holidays.

“The Christmas Boogie” The Davis Sisters

I love this boogie woogie tune by the Davis Sisters, who, despite both having the last name of Davis, were not actually related!

“They Shined Up Rudolph’s Nose” Johnny Horton

Yes, Rudolph has more than just the classic tune! And I like this one more! Johnny Horton is probably best known for “Battle of New Orleans.”

“Christmas Choo Choo Train” Coy McDaniel

Perhaps Santa’s sleigh is too small, and instead he needs a train for all of those goodies for the children!

“Senor Santa Claus” Jim Reeves

Here a man writes to Santa for a peso to buy his lovely gal something nice. Known as “Gentleman Jim” Jim Reeves performed several Christmas tunes, but I think this is the most unique.

“Christmas Ain’t Like Christmas” Kitty Wells

Not all Christmas tunes are happy and about Santa and gifts, some offer up some heartbreak, and Kitty Wells is the perfect gal for the job. Her voice is perfection. Wells is a country music icon, and has landed herself in the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1972. She also received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for her influence in music.

“North Pole Boogie” Billy Briggs

I love this beat and sound effects in this tune. There really is something so enjoyable about old boogie and hillbilly music!

“Santa Claus Shuffle” Tommy Scott

Despite being weighed down by all of this gifts, Santa is still down to shuffle when he hears Christmas music!

“Cactus Christmas” Brian Setzer Orchestra

Brian Setzer has been featured in these posts before, and while he’s more known for his swing and rockabilly music, I really wish he’d do a bit more country. This number is just so fun and speaks more to those living in the desert.
