Cowboy Christmas Playlist

November 23, 2018, 4 Comments on Cowboy Christmas Playlist

With Thanksgiving come and gone, it’s officially the Christmas season, and last year I decided to start a tradition here on the blog of sharing Christmas music from my vast collection, and started with California Christmas numbers. This year I decided to pull some of the western tunes to share with you today! “Santa Got…

Sweetheart of the Rodeo

July 31, 2018, 4 Comments on Sweetheart of the Rodeo

This year one of my favorite albums turns 50, The Byrds’ Sweetheart of the Rodeo, and to commemorate the milestone, co-founders of The Byrds, Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman decided to embark on a tour, along with Marty Stuart. They opened in LA last week, and I was overjoyed to snag tickets to the second…

California Christmas

December 21, 2014, 5 Comments on California Christmas

Over the weekend Patrick and I did a bit of last minute Christmas shopping. We’ve been super busy lately and while getting dressed up to go shopping is always appealing, we were rushing around so I opted for a more casual, but still festive look. So here’s a somewhat random fact about me, I love…

This Old Town is Filled with Sin

June 12, 2014, 11 Comments on This Old Town is Filled with Sin

When I blogged about my Flying Burrito Brothers t-shirt I mentioned I had another Gram Parsons inspired outfit on the way once I got something back from the shoe repair. Well, it’s back! And it’s not shoes. It’s a jacket.   On Gram’s tour with the Fallen Angels, a group of fans calling themselves the…

Go for Launch

April 9, 2014, 5 Comments on Go for Launch

Last night Patrick and I got a pleasant mid-week treat, one of our favorite bands, The Phenomenauts, who I’ve blogged about before, rolled into town for an evening of space themed rockabilly. I never get tired of seeing these guys. They always put on a great show, complete with lasers, fire extinguishers and a toilet…

The Grievous Angel

March 17, 2014, 4 Comments on The Grievous Angel

One of the things I really wanted to do this trip to Palm Springs was go to Joshua Tree.  But not for the reason many would want to visit this gorgeous park.  While most come for the beauty of the landscape, or for cycling or to climb the unique rock formations, my visit was a…

The Dusty 45s

February 1, 2014, 5 Comments on The Dusty 45s

Last night, Patrick and I joined Sarah of Simply Vintage for a night at Doug Fir seeing The Dusty 45s. This outfit contains two of my more recently acquired prized possessions; the wool fringe vest and the Kachina doll ring.  The vest I picked up a local rummage sale for a mere $5! I was…

Rocket Roll

Last night is up there with one of the best nights of my life.  I got to see my favorite band, The Phenomenauts.  If you have not yet heard of them, I highly recommend you check them out.  They are, simply put, sci-fi infused rockabilly.  They sing songs about robots, planets, and space travel.  It’s…

I Strum My Guitar…

April 13, 2012, 2 Comments on I Strum My Guitar…

Last night I was finally able to check off a band that I’ve been dying to see for years off my list…Social Distortion.  Social D, like Brian Setzer and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, was one of my early introductions into the neo-rockabilly movement, and for sometime, the three groups were all I would play intertwined…

Over the last few months I’ve been OBSESSED with Over the last few months I’ve been OBSESSED with @cerro.gordo.ca on YouTube - one man, alone in an abandoned silver mining town from the 1860s that he owns. Well, he’s not totally alone, he has some kitties and goats to keep him company! I highly recommend watching! And if you like what ya see, he has merch (including this tee and more) and a Patreon that helps him restore the place. I can’t wait to visit the place in person one day. 🏚

For the last couple of years I have mentioned want For the last couple of years I have mentioned wanting a squash blossom of green stones to match a bracelet and ring I had, and earlier this year I mentioned I wanted to focus on buying jewelry directly from Native artists. Patrick took these comments to heart and surprised me with a necklace he had commissioned by @djstoy_86 featuring beautiful sandcast silver and Sonora Gold stones for our anniversary. I actually cried. It’s nothing short of stunning. Oh and it matches my other pieces almost perfectly!
It was the first day of a new semester of my sopho It was the first day of a new semester of my sophomore year of high school. In the minutes before the bell rang to start my new biology class there was the usual nerves and excitement of who would be in your class and each time the door opened I turned to look. Then the hottest red head I had ever seen walked through the door. It legit was the moment in Big Fish. Time slowed as he flipped his Beatle-esque hair, hand on the strap of his Timbuk2 bag. I stopped talking to my friend Paul @pdxatreides who instantly greeted him and introduced his friend @patrickarlt to me. I fell head over heels instantly, but we didn’t start dating until the following year. Five years later we tied the knot in a winter wedding (complete with glittering aluminum trees) and it was only fitting that Paul performed our ceremony. I originally searched for a vintage dress, but settled upon a new one that I loved. Three weeks before the big day I found a vintage one at one of my favorite vintage shops that fit like a glove. I decided to change into it for the reception. I especially loved it because it could be converted from a full skirt to a pencil. Today we celebrate ten years of marriage. I used to think ten years was eons. It’s not. I sometimes still feel like I’m that silly girl in high school, and I think that’s his doing. I say this in a good way, he makes me feel like no time has passed.
