Cupid has Arrived!

After ringing in the New Year it was time to decorate for Valentine’s Day. For most of my life I haven’t much cared for Valentine’s Day, but I have been charmed by the adorable vintage valentines I find at antique malls and now our living room becomes a place bursting with hearts!

In decorating for Valentine’s Day I reuse a lot of tricks I use for Halloween and Christmas, such as the “clothes line” treatment for cards, and using plate stands, which for Valentine’s Day hold vintage heart shaped chocolate boxes. I also reuse the ceiling Command Hooks, to hang vintage die-cut decorations as well as these adorable lace style hearts I picked up at Target that were part of a DIY valentine card kit.

You will also spy the latest addition to our living room decor, the massive Kodak lighted sign. When we took out the air conditioner last year we knew we would need to put something on it, but procrastinated because we knew our decor for various holidays would fill the space well enough. Even though we had time, we brainstormed ideas, including large prints of photos we had taken (like the Joshua Tree prints in the hallway), vintage signs, or a painting collection. Then over the weekend we decided to go antiquing, on the hunt for more Valentine’s Day items, and stumbled across this sign. It fits perfectly in the space and connects with Patrick’s camera collection well. While you can’t tell in the photos, the center swirl part spins!

Stay tuned for a closer look at my Valentine’s Day card collection when I share scans of a handful of cards! In the meantime you can check out previous years here!

In decorating I realized our home spends half of the year decorated for the holidays! September through early November is Halloween, then the second Halloween is packed away it’s in with Christmas, with the last week of the year sometimes being decorated for New Year’s Eve, and then January through February it looks like this! Sometimes I decorate for the Fourth of July, it really just depends on the mood I’m in around the start of June. Do you go all out for various holidays?
