Retracing the Final Steps of Gram Parsons at the Joshua Tree Inn

November 20, 2023, 3 Comments on Retracing the Final Steps of Gram Parsons at the Joshua Tree Inn

For our weekend in the desert for Orville Peck’s Rodeo, Patrick and I stayed at my favorite place in the high desert, the Joshua Tree Inn. Long time readers may be familiar with the small motel, as I’ve featured it several times. But this stay was extra special because we stayed in Room 2, which…

Frightful Reads: The Art of Horror Comics

October 11, 2023, Leave a Comment on Frightful Reads: The Art of Horror Comics

Awhile back I shared part of my vintage romance comic book collection near Valentine’s Day. With Halloween coming up, it seemed a fitting time to share part of my vintage horror comic book collection. Want to read something in the vein of these comics? I highly recommend DC Showcase Presents: Ghosts, available via Amazon (note:…

Our First Visit to the Kitschtastic Madonna Inn

September 20, 2023, 3 Comments on Our First Visit to the Kitschtastic Madonna Inn

For as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to stay at the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo. Since its opening in 1958, this sprawling complex has become iconic, beloved by generation after generation. And recently Patrick and I had the perfect excuse to stay there, as I was in a wedding in…

Revisiting the Las Vegas Neon Museum

June 19, 2023, 3 Comments on Revisiting the Las Vegas Neon Museum

Back in 2017 Patrick and I visited the Las Vegas Neon Museum, and had an absolute blast, taking both their daytime and nighttime tours. Recently they added a “Photo Walk” option, which is a time for photographers to have respectful free-reign (no touching of the signs!) of the boneyard, and since Patrick has gotten more…

Inside Boise’s Enchanting Egyptian Theatre

June 7, 2023, 1 Comment on Inside Boise’s Enchanting Egyptian Theatre

While Idaho is known for its potatoes, it has so much more to offer, including one of the best examples of Egyptian revival style architecture, Boise’s Egyptian Theatre, which has been entertaining audiences for almost 100 years. A product of the Egyptian craze that swept the world after the discovery of King Tut’s tomb in…

More than Las Vegas: Neon Gems of Nevada

June 5, 2023, 2 Comments on More than Las Vegas: Neon Gems of Nevada

Never go on a road trip with me unless you’re prepared to pull off the road whenever I see a neon sign, abandoned building, or something weird. When Patrick and I weren’t on freeways, we took many backroads and old highways during our trip, and even though we had made this drive before, we still…

Yo Ho! A Dapper Life For Me!

April 19, 2023, Leave a Comment on Yo Ho! A Dapper Life For Me!

Spring has sprung and with it brings Dapper Day, the twice yearly event at Disneyland that encourages visitors to “step out in style” and shop the Dapper Day Expo, which is filled with vintage and vintage inspired goodies, as well as amazing artists. Friday night we helped our friends at Match Accessories set up for…

The Tale of Nell Donnelly: Fashion Icon Rescued by the Mob

March 29, 2023, 5 Comments on The Tale of Nell Donnelly: Fashion Icon Rescued by the Mob

When we think about fashion labels with notorious pasts, we think about Gucci or Versace. But there is one forgotten about fashion label that an estimated one in seven women owned and its founder and designer, Nell Donnelly, was once caught up in a kidnapping that was solved by the mob, and I recently acquired…

Revisiting the Warner Bros. Studio

January 11, 2023, 2 Comments on Revisiting the Warner Bros. Studio

This year is a big year for the movie industry with lots of anniversaries, including both Disney and Warner Bros. Studios turning 100. While Disney’s icons are of the less tangible, animated variety, Warner Bros. offers incredible studio tours that allows guests to step inside their most beloved films and television series. Way back in…

Patchwork Christmas

As per our tradition, Patrick and I went to Disneyland on Christmas Day for a relaxing, but fun day going on a few rides, but mainly indulging in many of the sweet treats offered during the holiday season. We also spent a good deal of time just strolling, peaking in the windows at the marvelous…

November things. The boys tried to help decorate f November things. The boys tried to help decorate for Christmas, so things have taken way longer than I thought. Friends are the best. Disneyland surprises. And a new car!
This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basi This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basically just to eat as much holiday food as we could. It’s been on the chilly for us in California, so I bundled up but wanted to stay comfy, and ended up looking like a David Crosby groupie. Not a bad look for throwing it together at 6 am! From the Holiday Beef Dinner Potato to the gingerbread cookies (the best ones are from Harbor Galley!) to the Cranberry Pomegranate Mint Julep (it’s no Watermelon Julep but it’s still tasty!) we filled our bellies right as it started to sprinkle.

It took over a week to be able to come up with coh It took over a week to be able to come up with coherent words for how I’m feeling after the election. Over on the blog you can find a list of institutions Patrick and I currently support or have previously supported. They offer aid to various threatened groups, provide resources, teaching tools, and ways you can be active. Link can be found in stories and bio!

November so far. I can’t believe November is over November so far. I can’t believe November is over half over. I haven’t been able to blog for several reasons. 1. Both Pat and I caught a cold. Yes, a cold. We tested for COVID multiple times and were negative. 2. The election. Reflections on which will be shared this week on the blog. 3. We have started our office renovation. Well I guess we completed Phase 2. Phase 1 was when we build the wall. Anyway, we painted, laid carpet down, and moved some stuff around. Phase 3 will be making a custom corner wall unit. Meanwhile I finally packed the last Halloween box today. It was the bathroom decor, and began to deep clean. I hope to haul in the Christmas decor this week. How about y’all? How are you holding up? Have you decorated for the holidays?
We need each other more than ever now. We can be s We need each other more than ever now. We can be scared. I am the most scared I’ve ever been in my whole life. We can take today to rest and mourn. My simple advice is look around you. Find those you trust. Build a better community and future with them. And with them we will fight. We must never stop fighting to create a place where everyone is equal. If you learn of protests, groups, programs, anything, that helps others, post it, share it, encourage people to attend, and attend yourself.
So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. G So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. Get involved in your community. Create positive change on your own street. Make a space that is welcoming and inclusive. 💙
Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all s Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all seriousness, black cats are some of the best cats around. They are not bad luck and they are NOT to be used as live, temporary Halloween decorations. A very tragic reality, and a contributing factor to why they are often not available for adoption during October. Sadly because of superstition black cats are the least adopted, and make up roughly a third of the cats available for adoption. So please consider adopting one if you’re looking for a furry companion! They are incredibly affectionate and fun loving! 🐈‍⬛

We celebrated the centennial of our parade, quite the milestone! @patrickarlt and I took on a lot more responsibilities and it added to our growing sense of community here in Anaheim. While it may be over for another year, many of our volunteers are already hard at work seeking ways to improve our event for next year! 🎃 I dived a little more into all that Pat and I took on over on the blog!
