Star Wars Nite at Disneyland

May 8, 2024, Leave a Comment on Star Wars Nite at Disneyland

Last week my friend Mel came to visit to celebrate her 40th birthday. A big Star Wars fan, her birthday fell close to one of the special Star Wars Nites at Disneyland. Some of you might recall that Patrick and I attended Sweethearts’ Nite in February, and Star Wars Nite is another one of the…

Sweethearts’ Nite at Disneyland

February 7, 2024, 1 Comment on Sweethearts’ Nite at Disneyland

In recent years Disneyland has started “after hours” separate ticked parties at the park known as “Disneyland After Dark” with various themes. While some of the themes change year to year, some have stuck around, such as Sweethearts’ Nite, an evening dedicated to love and friendship. Last year Minerva, one of my friends went, and…

Antique Mall Dos & Don’ts

November 14, 2019, 8 Comments on Antique Mall Dos & Don’ts

Shopping for antiques and vintage is a different experience than the local mall or department store, and if you’re new to antiquing, it can be a little difficult to understand. My parents were antique dealers, and I grew up going to antique malls, quickly learned the ins and outs of antique malls, and eventually became…

How to (Mostly) Cat Proof Your Christmas Tree

December 13, 2018, 3 Comments on How to (Mostly) Cat Proof Your Christmas Tree

Every year around Christmastime, the internet is flooded with pictures and stories of cats terrorizing Christmas trees. I had cats growing up, and they simply loved climbing up into the branches of our trees. We had both fake and real trees over the years, and the cats loved both equally. The following is a guide…

Secrets of Wrapping Glamorous Gift Packages

December 6, 2018, 4 Comments on Secrets of Wrapping Glamorous Gift Packages

It’s the holiday season and that means it’s also the gift giving season. No matter what holiday you celebrate, you’re going to be wrapping presents. Now, call me old fashioned, but I much prefer a good ol’ wrapped present as opposed to one in a gift bag. But, I get it, sometimes wrapping can be…

Safe Ways to Display Vintage Halloween Decorations

October 16, 2018, 6 Comments on Safe Ways to Display Vintage Halloween Decorations

If you have frequented antique malls or flea markets this fall then you’ve probably noticed some vintage Halloween decorations for sale, most of which are made of paper, card stock, and thin cardboard. This rather delicate and disposable nature of decorating for Halloween meant a lot of decorations were easily damaged and often tossed after…

Every fall a heavy fog creeps into Knott’s Berry Farm, transforming it into Knott’s Scary Farm. In a way, Knott’s Scary Farm is an entirely different version of Knott’s Berry Farm, as it offers so much more, and therefore is worthy of its own…

This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basi This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basically just to eat as much holiday food as we could. It’s been on the chilly for us in California, so I bundled up but wanted to stay comfy, and ended up looking like a David Crosby groupie. Not a bad look for throwing it together at 6 am! From the Holiday Beef Dinner Potato to the gingerbread cookies (the best ones are from Harbor Galley!) to the Cranberry Pomegranate Mint Julep (it’s no Watermelon Julep but it’s still tasty!) we filled our bellies right as it started to sprinkle.

It took over a week to be able to come up with coh It took over a week to be able to come up with coherent words for how I’m feeling after the election. Over on the blog you can find a list of institutions Patrick and I currently support or have previously supported. They offer aid to various threatened groups, provide resources, teaching tools, and ways you can be active. Link can be found in stories and bio!

Also this isn’t Philly! It’s Knott’s Berry Farm! Need a reminder of democracy, visit Knott’s Berry Farm’s recreation of Independence Hall. It’s free to visit! It was also used in National Treasure! Which came out 20 years ago today!
November so far. I can’t believe November is over November so far. I can’t believe November is over half over. I haven’t been able to blog for several reasons. 1. Both Pat and I caught a cold. Yes, a cold. We tested for COVID multiple times and were negative. 2. The election. Reflections on which will be shared this week on the blog. 3. We have started our office renovation. Well I guess we completed Phase 2. Phase 1 was when we build the wall. Anyway, we painted, laid carpet down, and moved some stuff around. Phase 3 will be making a custom corner wall unit. Meanwhile I finally packed the last Halloween box today. It was the bathroom decor, and began to deep clean. I hope to haul in the Christmas decor this week. How about y’all? How are you holding up? Have you decorated for the holidays?
We need each other more than ever now. We can be s We need each other more than ever now. We can be scared. I am the most scared I’ve ever been in my whole life. We can take today to rest and mourn. My simple advice is look around you. Find those you trust. Build a better community and future with them. And with them we will fight. We must never stop fighting to create a place where everyone is equal. If you learn of protests, groups, programs, anything, that helps others, post it, share it, encourage people to attend, and attend yourself.
So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. G So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. Get involved in your community. Create positive change on your own street. Make a space that is welcoming and inclusive. 💙
Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all s Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all seriousness, black cats are some of the best cats around. They are not bad luck and they are NOT to be used as live, temporary Halloween decorations. A very tragic reality, and a contributing factor to why they are often not available for adoption during October. Sadly because of superstition black cats are the least adopted, and make up roughly a third of the cats available for adoption. So please consider adopting one if you’re looking for a furry companion! They are incredibly affectionate and fun loving! 🐈‍⬛

We celebrated the centennial of our parade, quite the milestone! @patrickarlt and I took on a lot more responsibilities and it added to our growing sense of community here in Anaheim. While it may be over for another year, many of our volunteers are already hard at work seeking ways to improve our event for next year! 🎃 I dived a little more into all that Pat and I took on over on the blog!
