Last night I went out for an extremely late birthday dinner with a few friends. And wore what has to be a new favorite dress of mine…
Yeah, it has wooden sombrero buttons! How insanely fantastic is that!? They are kind of the reason I had to buy it. It’s kind of shame the neckline is so high, or else it would go perfectly with my wooden sombrero necklace.
The evening was pretty swell, until I realized when we went out for ice cream that I was missing a button and after a long search, I came up empty handed. But thankfully I found a few on Etsy and they should be heading my way soon. Thank goodness. But now I’ve learned my lesson, ALWAYS reinforce buttons on vintage dresses the moment you get ’em.

Yes, I really love your whole outfit!
Lucky that you find some other ones… I have just bought a sweater with lucite confettis buttons and almost loose one… so I reinforce all immediately!!!
Omfg. Absolute perfection. The earrings, the bag, the belt, the buttons (even the ones at the collar!!), the brooch. Damn girl, I’m completely floored!
Thanks! I think it has to do with my love of California in general as well as the the west (meaning cowboys, Oregon Trail, the Gold Rush, ranches, etc.), and the Mexican culture and imagery is part of that rich Californian and western history. The colors of Mexican themed items are so bright and cheery too.
Janey!!! I just have no words for this outfit so I’m going to have to make up some of my own instead! PERFECTOUS! MAGNIFITASTIC! BEAUMAZING!!! You get the idea hehe, this outfit is such a level of incredible. Those dear little buttons, that amazing cut, just wow.
So glad you managed to find some more buttons for it, reinforcing buttons is so important, something we all learn the hard way!
Off-the-charts insanely fantastic! Oh my goodness, those are the crème de la crème of incredible vintage novelty buttons. It’s no wonder why this awesome frock has become a new favourite of yours. Completely lovely ensemble from head to toe, honey – that bag injects such a kicky pop of feel good colour into the look.
This whole ensemble is wonderful. The dress is simple and elegant, and a great canvas for adding all the splashes of colour! The belt is such a great match, as is the bag….and don’t even get me started on the sombrero buttons!!!
I guess I’m a little late to comment, but I just had to mention, besides how wonderful your outfit is, I find you have a striking resemblance to the beautiful Rita Hayworth, this post especially reminds me of her movie “The Loves of Carmen”

My gosh, I bet you panicked over the missing button. I’m so happy you were able to find some spares.
What a lovely outfit! You look so stylish – the dress, accessories and that hair do (how on earth do you get it to stay so perfect?!) looks great 🙂
