Race Days

One weekend that I look forward to each summer is the weekend spend at Portland International Raceway for the Portland Historic Races with my dad.  As odd as it may sound, the days spent at the track are some of the most relaxing.  We’ve been going to the Historics for over ten years, and the latter half of those years have been spent in the S-curves of the track under the shade of an E-Z Up instead of in the grandstands.  There is something about the smell of grass, gasoline and sun, combined with the roar of engines that I find so incredibly relaxing.

At the Historics you can see a huge range of cars, from American classics parked in the Hot Rod Corral to obscure European models to extremely rare early race cars.  It’s a feast for the eyes and the ears.  While I’m all for going green by recycling, bicycling and not wasting electricity, I can’t get over electric cars and how utterly lame they sound.

For several years now we’ve watched the races next to the same group of people, who have a pair of adorable dogs.  One, Pugsley, enjoys my company each year, even if it’s just because I rub his belly.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend!
