A Slice of Boysenberry Festival

Springtime means it’s Boysenberry Festival time at Knott’s Berry Farm! The berry that made Knott’s Berry Farm famous is being celebrated by being used as the key ingredient in dozens of delicious items. Whether you like sweet or savory, you’re bound to find something you love! It’s also the perfect excuse to come up with a fun purple ensemble.

Not only does the festival offer the array of delectable bites, there are games for all ages, the melodrama has returned to the famed Bird Cage Theatre, there is a fabulous musical review, and of course the craft fair! The craft fair is home to one of my favorite persons, Maria, aka Miss Doolittle, who created the iconic boysenberry pie hat that you’ve seen me don before. We started chatting earlier in the season and she told me about a pie slice kerchief she had been thinking about. I instantly told her I needed one, which then drove a whole boysenberry pie slice inspired outfit.

Maria even said she was working on a boysenberry pie slice purse! I can’t wait to see how that turns out. She’s so creative and comes up with the cutest accessories. If you make to the festival, be sure to stop by her booth, located near the Calico Saloon. She also offers bows, jewelry, hand painted signs, dog clothes, and her ever popular slime for the kiddos! If you’re not in the area and need a pie hat (boysenberry or otherwise), you can order a variety of items from her Etsy shop! Just take extra care to see how long your order may take, as she is very popular (meaning busy), especially in spring!

As for the food, some of my favorite items this year have been the boysenberry cheese danish, layered no-bake boysenberry cheesecake cup, and the boysenberry BBQ beef barbacoa on mac and cheese.

Boysenberry Festival runs through April 28 with some offerings only available on weekends. For more information, visit Knott’s Berry Farm’s website.
