Halloween Night

November 21, 2024, Leave a Comment on Halloween Night

I know it’s almost Thanksgiving, but I didn’t want to pass on sharing snapshots from Halloween night, which we spent at Knott’s Scary Farm. This had kind of been our tradition for awhile, giving us a nice way to close out the Halloween season! From the fog filled streets of Ghost Town, to the waves…

All Hallow’s Eve at Knott’s

November 8, 2023, Leave a Comment on All Hallow’s Eve at Knott’s

For Halloween day, some friends, Patrick, and I spent the sunshine filled day, and the fog filled night at Knott’s Berry Farm. During the day we popped inside the Bird Cage Theatre to catch Bob Baker’s Halloween Spooktacular, followed by the bluegrass tunes of Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies. As night fell it was time…

The Return of Dapper Day!

November 17, 2021, 1 Comment on The Return of Dapper Day!

In March of 2020 many Disney fans were making plans and looking forward to the twice yearly event at Disneyland known as Dapper Day. And then, well, you all know what happened in March of 2020. Long time readers will be familiar with this “unofficial” theme day, where Guests are encouraged to “step out in…

Apple Picking in Oak Glen

October 26, 2021, 1 Comment on Apple Picking in Oak Glen

Tucked up in the hills of California’s inland empire is the quaint town of Oak Glen. With less than 500 residents, it’s a relatively sleepy little town until autumn arrives, when this country haven is overrun with out-of-towners, including myself. Why? It’s the Southern California hot spot for that beloved fall activity of apple picking. Within…

Autumn Outing at Disneyland

October 19, 2021, 4 Comments on Autumn Outing at Disneyland

Patrick and I returned to Disneyland last week to bask in the autumn decor. Living in Southern California means there really isn’t a lot of fall color, so sometimes I have to take in the manufactured fall vibes of Disneyland. Especially now as I’m not apt to do a whole lot of traveling at the…

200 Years of Sleepy Hollow

September 16, 2021, 4 Comments on 200 Years of Sleepy Hollow

In 1819 American writer Washington Irving penned a short story that  would go on to become one of the most enduring Halloween classics, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” For just over 200 years, Ichabod Crane and his adversary the Headless Horseman have been interpreted time and time again and in variety of ways. Last weekend…

Anaheim Halloween Parade – Drive Thru Style

October 28, 2020, 3 Comments on Anaheim Halloween Parade – Drive Thru Style

I’m lucky enough to live in a town that has a Halloween parade every year. Under normal circumstances, there is a fall festival during the day before the parade starts. The festival is full of games, artists selling their unique works, and live music. Then as the sun sets the parade, with its collection of…

When Black Cats Prowl…

October 15, 2020, 4 Comments on When Black Cats Prowl…

Obviously things are different this Halloween season as a result of COVID-19, and Halloween is big business here in Southern California. Typically all of the amusement parks have special events, rural areas become autumnal havens full of pumpkins and apples, while LA has its very own Haunted Hayride, and even local homes do their own…

Halloween is Creeping in Early

September 16, 2020, 6 Comments on Halloween is Creeping in Early

Normally I don’t share my Halloween decor until early October, because despite decorating mid-September, I tend to spend the remaining weeks of September combing antique malls and flea markets for fresh vintage finds to add. But, this year obviously is much, much different. I’ve taken COVID-19 extremely seriously, and despite many antique malls reopening, and…

Fall Dapper Day with Friends

November 5, 2019, 6 Comments on Fall Dapper Day with Friends

Fall Dapper Day came right on the heels of Halloween this year, but for the most part we played it pretty chill, spending most of the day roaming, taking photos and eating food. Like previous unofficial theme days at Disneyland, you’re not only getting pictures of me, but also photos of some of my stylish…

This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basi This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basically just to eat as much holiday food as we could. It’s been on the chilly for us in California, so I bundled up but wanted to stay comfy, and ended up looking like a David Crosby groupie. Not a bad look for throwing it together at 6 am! From the Holiday Beef Dinner Potato to the gingerbread cookies (the best ones are from Harbor Galley!) to the Cranberry Pomegranate Mint Julep (it’s no Watermelon Julep but it’s still tasty!) we filled our bellies right as it started to sprinkle.

It took over a week to be able to come up with coh It took over a week to be able to come up with coherent words for how I’m feeling after the election. Over on the blog you can find a list of institutions Patrick and I currently support or have previously supported. They offer aid to various threatened groups, provide resources, teaching tools, and ways you can be active. Link can be found in stories and bio!

Also this isn’t Philly! It’s Knott’s Berry Farm! Need a reminder of democracy, visit Knott’s Berry Farm’s recreation of Independence Hall. It’s free to visit! It was also used in National Treasure! Which came out 20 years ago today!
November so far. I can’t believe November is over November so far. I can’t believe November is over half over. I haven’t been able to blog for several reasons. 1. Both Pat and I caught a cold. Yes, a cold. We tested for COVID multiple times and were negative. 2. The election. Reflections on which will be shared this week on the blog. 3. We have started our office renovation. Well I guess we completed Phase 2. Phase 1 was when we build the wall. Anyway, we painted, laid carpet down, and moved some stuff around. Phase 3 will be making a custom corner wall unit. Meanwhile I finally packed the last Halloween box today. It was the bathroom decor, and began to deep clean. I hope to haul in the Christmas decor this week. How about y’all? How are you holding up? Have you decorated for the holidays?
We need each other more than ever now. We can be s We need each other more than ever now. We can be scared. I am the most scared I’ve ever been in my whole life. We can take today to rest and mourn. My simple advice is look around you. Find those you trust. Build a better community and future with them. And with them we will fight. We must never stop fighting to create a place where everyone is equal. If you learn of protests, groups, programs, anything, that helps others, post it, share it, encourage people to attend, and attend yourself.
So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. G So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. Get involved in your community. Create positive change on your own street. Make a space that is welcoming and inclusive. 💙
Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all s Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all seriousness, black cats are some of the best cats around. They are not bad luck and they are NOT to be used as live, temporary Halloween decorations. A very tragic reality, and a contributing factor to why they are often not available for adoption during October. Sadly because of superstition black cats are the least adopted, and make up roughly a third of the cats available for adoption. So please consider adopting one if you’re looking for a furry companion! They are incredibly affectionate and fun loving! 🐈‍⬛
