Celebrating Movie Magic at the Academy Museum

November 9, 2021, 3 Comments on Celebrating Movie Magic at the Academy Museum

Over the last few years Hollywood has been working hard in the former May Company building, overhauling it to turn it into the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Earlier this fall it finally opened, and we visited last weekend. Fair warning, this post includes spoilers of classic films such as Citizen Kane and Psycho. With…

A Haunting Halloween at Disneyland

November 4, 2021, 2 Comments on A Haunting Halloween at Disneyland

For Halloween we spent the first half of the day at Disneyland before returning home to pass out candy to trick or treaters, or rather checking in on our bowl out front, refilling it as necessary. For our visit to the park, I wanted to deviate from the classic orange and black, and opted for…

Christmas Day at Disneyland

December 30, 2016, 3 Comments on Christmas Day at Disneyland

Patrick and I went back to back with theme parks this Christmas, with Knott’s Berry Farm Christmas Eve and Disneyland Christmas Day. We enjoyed the beautiful sights and sounds of the holiday season throughout the park, from the garlands to the Dapper Dans, it was a beautiful sun filled Christmas Day. I won’t lie, I…

Are You Ready for Halloween?

September 29, 2013, 9 Comments on Are You Ready for Halloween?

The real “goal” of going to Disneyland this go around was to attend one of Mickey’s Halloween Parties, something I’ve never done before.  These parties, which take place during select nights during the Halloween season, are the only time when those over the age of nine are permitted to wear costumes, and since I love…

Rock Around the Park

November 16, 2012, 4 Comments on Rock Around the Park

On our last day in the park this visit, I donned my Zero circle skirt and we joined the rockabilly crowd for Rock Around the Park, a day in which a bunch of rockabilly people get together and go to Disneyland.  We arrived early, being one of the first people in the park, and when…

Deck the Halls and Give a Cheer

December 27, 2011, 2 Comments on Deck the Halls and Give a Cheer

After seeing Brian Setzer, we headed to my dad’s to stay the night and then spend Christmas Eve in Eugene where my mum and brother came over. My first gift was from my dad which happened to be a Dream Pet style hippo! Since my favorite Christmas song is “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas”…

Zero Poodle Skirt – A Halloween Spin on a Vintage Classic

October 5, 2011, 9 Comments on Zero Poodle Skirt – A Halloween Spin on a Vintage Classic

The days are getting shorter, the weather cooler, and the leavers are changing color. It’s my favorite time of year – autumn.  Katie and I have been waiting for these colder days for some time, since we can now fully enjoy our felt circle skirts that we’ve been making…and now that it is October, I…

The sun has set on another drive-in. We all knew @ The sun has set on another drive-in. We all knew @missiontikidrivein ‘s days were numbered. We got more time than we thought, but the unceremonious closure that occurred last night hurt. I found out about the closure too late to make it out there one more time. This drive-in got myself, many of my friends, and I’m sure many more, through some of the toughest parts of the pandemic. It was one of the few places we felt comfortable gathering at in the pre-vaccine days. We stood, 6-10 feet apart, masked, and were happy to be out and seeing those we loved and enjoying some literal good old fashioned entertainment. Thankfully there are a handful of other drive-ins near me to visit, but this highlights how important it is to support YOUR local drive-in. If you want a better understanding of the economics of running a drive-in I highly recommend @april_wright_1999 ‘s two documentaries on the subject.

It’s rare I go to the movies anymore unless it’s the drive-in or a private screening, but when I found out via @tinyteacupvintage that @thefridacinema was showing the 2001 masterpiece that is Josie and the Pussycats I knew I had to throw on my @superyakishop tee and go. Movie theater popcorn was missed as I wore my mask the whole time (sans this brief photo) but it was a thrill to see this on the big screen for the first time in over two decades. This movie was everything to me for years, and call me crazy, but this movie is subversive AF. It’s about being who you are, and I love that. It was also a delight to be around so many other amazing fans who truly appreciate this movie. Remember Dujour means family! And seatbelts!

2022 was simultaneously an amazing and a really sh 2022 was simultaneously an amazing and a really shitty year. Those with a uterus lost a lot, but we are putting up a good fight, and winning. But right now I want to focus on some of the good elements. Here are some highlights from this year. Finally blogging about Angels Flight, Route 66 adventures, a birthday spent at the legendary Canyon Country Store, seeing Orville Peck four times, Star Wars Celebration, reopening of Tail o the Pup, seeing Elton John at Dodger Stadium, and dining at one of Gram Parsons’ old haunts, the Copper Room. This was also the year of house projects, many of which we still have yet to share! Here is to 2023, where we keep fighting for our right to choose, staying sane, working on ourselves, and having fun.

The boys are immensely concerned for the future of The boys are immensely concerned for the future of what they consider their room. Patrick and I decided this year was the year to move forward with a variety of house projects. We started with painting our dining room, and a custom TV cabinet, two bathroom paint jobs, a new wall later, we are now saying goodbye to our guest room. No, it’s not a nursery. I’m not pregnant. We are not having kids. It is becoming a home gym/library. Words cannot express how excited I am!
