Beginners Guide to Vintage Shopping

December 28, 2013, 16 Comments on Beginners Guide to Vintage Shopping

In my numerous vintage shopping excursions I have observed many people coming into shops who are not familiar with vintage, and may be just starting out.  Some get overwhelmed, others confused, so I thought I’d offer up some of my personal tips that I know make for a better shopping experience. Be Respectful When you…

September 2014 UPDATE: As I no longer call Portland home, this list may find itself out of date, as I will only know of changes in shops via friends and social media. So it is more important than ever to check Facebook, Google, and/or Yelp pages to see if businesses are still in operation and…

Fifty years ago the music industry lost a pioneer Fifty years ago the music industry lost a pioneer whose influence was just beginning. Gram Parsons, after a brief stint with The Byrds, went on to create The Flying Burrito Brothers, then a solo career, before dying of an overdose at the Joshua Tree Inn at 27. While few I meet know the name, the handful of albums he made left an impact and forged the country rock genre, although he hated the term. Living in Southern California means I’ve been able to retrace many of his steps over the years. From where he jammed, such as the defunct Palomino Club (I got to relive part of it thanks to @valleyrelicsmuseum ), where he drank, including @thecopperroom1957 , where he lived, the Chateau Marmont, the room where he died at the Inn, and where he was “cremated” at Cap Rock in Joshua Tree National Park. Recently I even visited where part of one of his albums was recorded. But the strike has put that post on hold. Eventually I plan to do a Gram SoCal guide but until then here are some snaps of some of those spots.
Mentally summer ends tomorrow. My attitudes around Mentally summer ends tomorrow. My attitudes around seasons have changed over the years, and since the arrival of Ghost Town Alive, it has marked the start and end of summer for me. Tomorrow I’ll bid farewell lounging inside my favorite spot in Calico, Goldie’s, and then eagerly await the fog to roll in and shriek with fear and delight. As always I want to thank the ever talented citizens of Calico, for their dedication, patience, and magic. You make every summer unforgettable.

Then I scored this astronaut costume for only $15, and I of course had to get myself one of the amazing @anaheimhalloweenparade Andy figurines! He is too precious for WORDS! I cannot wait for decorating to commence!

Recently my amazingly talented friends at @matchac Recently my amazingly talented friends at @matchaccessories opened up a brick-and-mortar shop in quaint and adorable downtown Livermore. Not only is it full of the fabulous jewelry many of you already know and love, but also vintage clothing and vintage inspired clothing from @locolindola and @gimmick.clothing ! I was so happy to be able to join in the grand opening festivities. I am so very proud of every member of the Match team. They are some of the most kind, generous, and talented people I have ever had the joy of meeting. If you find yourself in the Bay Area make your way to Livermore! Downtown has a ton of amazing restaurants and a large comic book store! Congrats Millers! So proud of you!!! Love you so much! 💖
