So…I’m kind of a geek. I love to dress up as characters from movies, TV shows, and comics and attend these little get togethers called “comic conventions.” Perhaps you’ve heard of them…

Wait…I’m a what!?

September 8, 2013, 19 Comments on Wait…I’m a what!?

I recently read through a forum thread from which I was getting a lot of views from.  It discussed that some “vintage blogs” aren’t really “vintage” anymore.  While I was mentioned positively, and I understand the readers’ frustrations, I would also like to say that a person’s blog is their own.  It is for their…

“Very Fancy”

February 25, 2013, 6 Comments on “Very Fancy”

So, as you all know by now, I spent last weekend at the Portland Convention Center for Portland Comic Con. And it was crazy.  So crazy, both Patrick and I really failed at taking pictures.  There was so much to see and do and talk about. Friday found myself dressed as Marion Ravenwood and my…

“Who’s Gonna Help Me File My Claim?”

February 21, 2013, 26 Comments on “Who’s Gonna Help Me File My Claim?”

Last night, after weeks upon weeks of sewing and beading, I finally completed by Dixie Cousins costume for this weekend’s ComicCon here in Portland and today I had photographer and friend Anthony come by to shoot it.  I can’t even express how wonderful Anthony is to work with. He took so many amazing photos, it…

Just Keep Beading…

February 8, 2013, 17 Comments on Just Keep Beading…

Part of the reason for the lack of blog posts lately is the fact that most of my time lately has been taken up by the making of my Dixie Cousins costume which needs to be completed by February 24th when my dream of meeting Bruce Campbell will come true! Additionally, it’s a costume I’ve…

And Now for Something Completely Different

January 25, 2013, 8 Comments on And Now for Something Completely Different

I’ve mentioned a handful of times that I’m a big fan of western wear as well as a few western themed shows and movies.  One of my favorite shows of all time is The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., a shortly lived series in the early 1990s which starred B-Movie actor Bruce Campbell.  In my…

“Do we need the monkey?”

October 6, 2012, 23 Comments on “Do we need the monkey?”

If you’ve been watching my Twitter or Instagram, you’ll have noticed weeks upon weeks of updates pertaining to my Halloween costume.  Well, here it is, folks! This year I’m going as Marion Ravenwood from Raiders of the Lost Ark in her “Streets of Cairo” outfit of red harem pants and white peasant blouse (and Patrick…

Costume Construction

August 16, 2012, 10 Comments on Costume Construction

So, it may be August, but I’m already thinking about Halloween (to be fair, Fabric Depot already has a display full of costume patterns out).  I had tossed about many ideas, but many required sewing skills I do not yet have (and don’t wish to tackle yet) and/or would be quite costly.  And then I…

The sun has set on another drive-in. We all knew @ The sun has set on another drive-in. We all knew @missiontikidrivein ‘s days were numbered. We got more time than we thought, but the unceremonious closure that occurred last night hurt. I found out about the closure too late to make it out there one more time. This drive-in got myself, many of my friends, and I’m sure many more, through some of the toughest parts of the pandemic. It was one of the few places we felt comfortable gathering at in the pre-vaccine days. We stood, 6-10 feet apart, masked, and were happy to be out and seeing those we loved and enjoying some literal good old fashioned entertainment. Thankfully there are a handful of other drive-ins near me to visit, but this highlights how important it is to support YOUR local drive-in. If you want a better understanding of the economics of running a drive-in I highly recommend @april_wright_1999 ‘s two documentaries on the subject.

It’s rare I go to the movies anymore unless it’s the drive-in or a private screening, but when I found out via @tinyteacupvintage that @thefridacinema was showing the 2001 masterpiece that is Josie and the Pussycats I knew I had to throw on my @superyakishop tee and go. Movie theater popcorn was missed as I wore my mask the whole time (sans this brief photo) but it was a thrill to see this on the big screen for the first time in over two decades. This movie was everything to me for years, and call me crazy, but this movie is subversive AF. It’s about being who you are, and I love that. It was also a delight to be around so many other amazing fans who truly appreciate this movie. Remember Dujour means family! And seatbelts!

2022 was simultaneously an amazing and a really sh 2022 was simultaneously an amazing and a really shitty year. Those with a uterus lost a lot, but we are putting up a good fight, and winning. But right now I want to focus on some of the good elements. Here are some highlights from this year. Finally blogging about Angels Flight, Route 66 adventures, a birthday spent at the legendary Canyon Country Store, seeing Orville Peck four times, Star Wars Celebration, reopening of Tail o the Pup, seeing Elton John at Dodger Stadium, and dining at one of Gram Parsons’ old haunts, the Copper Room. This was also the year of house projects, many of which we still have yet to share! Here is to 2023, where we keep fighting for our right to choose, staying sane, working on ourselves, and having fun.

The boys are immensely concerned for the future of The boys are immensely concerned for the future of what they consider their room. Patrick and I decided this year was the year to move forward with a variety of house projects. We started with painting our dining room, and a custom TV cabinet, two bathroom paint jobs, a new wall later, we are now saying goodbye to our guest room. No, it’s not a nursery. I’m not pregnant. We are not having kids. It is becoming a home gym/library. Words cannot express how excited I am!
