Found Treasures

Hi, my name is Janey, and I am addicted to shopping.

Sleeping Beauty's Castle, straight on. The walls have a pink tint to them, and greyish blue roofs. People mingle in front.

Vintage Disneyland Postcards: Fantasyland

October 23, 2018, 7 Comments on Vintage Disneyland Postcards: Fantasyland

Today is the final installment of my vintage Disneyland postcard series, and with it, I saved the most iconic land for last, Fantasyland. Disneyland perhaps wouldn’t be what it is if it were not for the beloved animated films created at the Walt Disney Studio, and here, in  Fantasyland Guests get to step into those…

Vintage Disneyland Postcards: Tomorrowland

Today we jump into the future…well, what Disneyland Imagineers of the 1950s and 1960s thought the future would look like, more specifically, what the world of 1986 would look like. Out of all of the lands, Tomorrowland is the one that has seen the most change, with complete overhauls in 1967 and 1998. The first…

Vintage Disneyland Postcards: New Orleans Square

In 1966 Disneyland debuted its first new land since the park opened in 1955 with New Orleans Square. Inspired by New Orleans of the 1800s, it features gorgeous wrought iron, convincing forced perspective, and originally was going to feature a larger in-park apartment for Walt Disney. From 1966 until 1996 there was the One-of-a-Kind Shop,…

Vintage Disneyland Postcards: Frontierland

September 13, 2018, 3 Comments on Vintage Disneyland Postcards: Frontierland

Today we continue our vintage tour through Disneyland by way of postcards, and we enter the dusty old west of Frontierland. Frontierland has seen a fair amount of change over the years. When Disneyland opened Frontierland was actually the largest land, as it included the Rivers of America and a vast, winding railroad and pathways…

Vintage Disneyland Postcards: Adventurelands

August 27, 2018, 4 Comments on Vintage Disneyland Postcards: Adventurelands

Earlier I introduced a new postcard series where I would be sharing my vintage Disneyland postcard collection. And since it’s so large, I decided to split it up into each of the lands, beginning with Main Street USA. Today we enter the mysterious Adventureland. I think it’s important to note that when Disneyland opened in…

Over the years I have shared selections from my vintage postcard collection, from Palm Springs to Portland, but I have never shared any of my vintage Disneyland ones! Today that changes! This is the first in what will be a series of five posts, each themed to one of the lands of Disneyland. Today we…

It’s a gloomy day (and suppose to stay gloomy an It’s a gloomy day (and suppose to stay gloomy and rainy for a few days) so here is a kitty photo dump to brighten your day.
Guys, I did a thing. I hadn’t had my hair profes Guys, I did a thing. I hadn’t had my hair professionally cut since 2017. And I’d been thinking about getting a light shag/wolf/low key Farrah for over a year now, to better fit in with my vibe. When I saw @florencepugh ‘s hair in Hawkeye (swipe for reference photos!) I knew that was the look I would feel the most comfortable going with. Not too drastic, but still a change. I’ve never had layers before, and haven’t had bangs of any sort since I was in like the second grade. This is a big change for me, and was ultra nervous. But @jameyonmelrose is a true hair goddess. She listens so well before hand and then works her magic. I can’t believe I didn’t do this sooner. Thank you so much, Jamey!

Huge thanks to @artofclarksilva for curating this delightful and informative exhibit.
I can’t help but wonder what will become of this I can’t help but wonder what will become of this fantastic neon sign in DCA with the revamp of the Wharf into San Fransokyo. It’s an amazing piece of neon art that should either go to the @disney Archives or @museumofneonart .
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. Ho I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. Hollywood Forever is an icon of LA, but can be overwhelming, with its sprawling lawns and rows of headstones. Even with a map it can be difficult to locate the resting spots of your favorite stars. Those wishing to visit the variety of celebs who call Hollywood Forever home should book @cemeterytourguide ‘s tour. She effortlessly guides visitors through while sharing some of Hollywood’s most interesting stories and humanizing stars, icons, and legends. Plus, there is @closeupthecemeterycat a star in his own right! 🐈‍⬛
Today we said goodbye to @p22mountainlion along wi Today we said goodbye to @p22mountainlion along with thousands of other mourners at his Celebration of Life. I was immensely thankful for the ability to attend, thanks to @drunkensquid who was able to secure tickets when I was unable to. For the uninitiated, P22 was a mountain lion who crossed two freeways unscathed before arriving in Griffith Park which he called home for the last ten years, becoming a celebrity in his own right after gracing the pages of National Geographic when he was photographed in front of the Hollywood sign. He also became an ambassador for the crisis facing mountain lions, who are facing the possibility of extinction (in as soon as 15 years) due to inbreeding due to lack of biodiversity. The key is building wildlife bridges and soon the world’s largest will open. But funding is required to build more. I highly recommend following P22’s account to learn how to help. 🐱 While wildlife and climate issues are serious matters, today I couldn’t help but be reminded of the Psych episode where Shawn and Gus attend a memorial for a sea lion, where life is certainly imitating art.
The other day I was at my local used bookstore and The other day I was at my local used bookstore and stumbled upon a collection of vintage 60s-early 80s occult and conspiracy books. While I didn’t buy them all, I bought a fair amount. The highlight being first paperback editions of Anton LaVey’s Satanic Bible, and Satanic Rituals for $2.97 each. When snapping photos, Houdini of course got in on the action, just like how he climbed atop the record player when I was playing Occult Explosion. My little perfect demon child.

Every once in awhile I’ll throw one or two up here on Insta, but for the most part, the random sign or abandoned building I snap a picture of gets forgotten about because it never gets a dedicated blog post. Today that changes! Head over to the blog for a glimpse at some of the remnants, remains, and random snapshots of last year. 📷 Link in bio and stories.

The sun has set on another drive-in. We all knew @ The sun has set on another drive-in. We all knew @missiontikidrivein ‘s days were numbered. We got more time than we thought, but the unceremonious closure that occurred last night hurt. I found out about the closure too late to make it out there one more time. This drive-in got myself, many of my friends, and I’m sure many more, through some of the toughest parts of the pandemic. It was one of the few places we felt comfortable gathering at in the pre-vaccine days. We stood, 6-10 feet apart, masked, and were happy to be out and seeing those we loved and enjoying some literal good old fashioned entertainment. Thankfully there are a handful of other drive-ins near me to visit, but this highlights how important it is to support YOUR local drive-in. If you want a better understanding of the economics of running a drive-in I highly recommend @april_wright_1999 ‘s two documentaries on the subject.
