You’re going to find out I’m obsessed with aluminum Christmas trees.

Santa Claus is Back in Town

December 18, 2011, Leave a Comment on Santa Claus is Back in Town

With Christmas just a week away, I’m still frantically making Christmas cards to get to friends and family, but I am pleased to say that I have completed my Christmas shopping, and now all my presents sit wrapped under our tree… This year, I hand made each Christmas card I sent out.  Some I buy,…

O Christmas Tree…

November 26, 2011, Leave a Comment on O Christmas Tree…

Well, it’s that time of year again. With the Thanksgiving leftovers tucked away in the fridge, it is time to break out the Christmas decor and listen to some Nat King Cole.  Last night I donned my favorite kitschy Christmas dress (and this year it fits thanks to my newly acquired sewing skills!) and Patrick…

The Perfect Thanksgiving Dress

November 25, 2011, Leave a Comment on The Perfect Thanksgiving Dress

This year was our first Thanksgiving married, and it rather highlighted our extremely fractured families.  Patrick and I ended up doing dinner alone, which I didn’t mind as much as I thought I would.  We cooked a ham (I am not a fan to turkey at all) and had a slue of vegetable sides all…

A Spooktacular Halloween

October 23, 2011, 2 Comments on A Spooktacular Halloween

Last night I once again hosted my mellow Halloween party, an evening filled with good friends, delicious beignets, a rousing game of Apples to Apples, and wonderful costumes. This year I grew mouse ears and a tail to become the Showgirl Mouse from Disney’s The Great Mouse Detective.  Patrick went as Number 6 from the…

Headless Horseman Circle Skirt

October 22, 2011, 6 Comments on Headless Horseman Circle Skirt

Fall is certainly my favorite time of year.  Fog creeps in during the crisp mornings, pumpkins adorn porches, and delicious scents fill homes.  It is also a time to watch some of my all-time favorite movies, including Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow, which inspired my next felt circle skirt… For this grey circle skirt, I took…

Corn and Pumpkins

October 10, 2011, Leave a Comment on Corn and Pumpkins

Over the weekend, Katie, Patrick and I took the small drive over to Savie Island to visit The Pumpkin Patch.  Saturday was the first decently sunny and non-rainy day Portlanders had had in awhile, and with the prediction to be more rain, the Patch was full of families running around eating corn on the cob…

Zero Poodle Skirt – A Halloween Spin on a Vintage Classic

October 5, 2011, 9 Comments on Zero Poodle Skirt – A Halloween Spin on a Vintage Classic

The days are getting shorter, the weather cooler, and the leavers are changing color. It’s my favorite time of year – autumn.  Katie and I have been waiting for these colder days for some time, since we can now fully enjoy our felt circle skirts that we’ve been making…and now that it is October, I…

Who is Your Favorite President?

February 21, 2011, Leave a Comment on Who is Your Favorite President?

Ah, Presidents Day – a day for kids to stay at home and for stores to host sales.  Today, I will take it to honor my favorite president – Lyndon Baines Johnson. Johnson was born in 1908 in Texas.  Growing up he was active in his school and church, including being voted president of his…

Proper Care and Maintenance of Aluminum Trees

January 7, 2011, 43 Comments on Proper Care and Maintenance of Aluminum Trees

Well, it’s that time again.  It’s the time when all the wonder and sparkle of the holiday season gets tucked back into boxes and stored away.  And when you decorate with vintage items, packing is a very important thing to do right.  Ceramics need to be bundled up with tissue paper and bubble wrap and…

Puzzles, Pompoms and Pockets!

December 30, 2010, Leave a Comment on Puzzles, Pompoms and Pockets!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.  Mine this year proved a bit more colorful than past years.  Patrick and I spent Christmas Eve at his aunt and uncle’s with his mother’s side of the family, and then we spent Christmas day with my mom and went to Eugene to visit my dad and…

November things. The boys tried to help decorate f November things. The boys tried to help decorate for Christmas, so things have taken way longer than I thought. Friends are the best. Disneyland surprises. And a new car!
This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basi This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basically just to eat as much holiday food as we could. It’s been on the chilly for us in California, so I bundled up but wanted to stay comfy, and ended up looking like a David Crosby groupie. Not a bad look for throwing it together at 6 am! From the Holiday Beef Dinner Potato to the gingerbread cookies (the best ones are from Harbor Galley!) to the Cranberry Pomegranate Mint Julep (it’s no Watermelon Julep but it’s still tasty!) we filled our bellies right as it started to sprinkle.

It took over a week to be able to come up with coh It took over a week to be able to come up with coherent words for how I’m feeling after the election. Over on the blog you can find a list of institutions Patrick and I currently support or have previously supported. They offer aid to various threatened groups, provide resources, teaching tools, and ways you can be active. Link can be found in stories and bio!

Also this isn’t Philly! It’s Knott’s Berry Farm! Need a reminder of democracy, visit Knott’s Berry Farm’s recreation of Independence Hall. It’s free to visit! It was also used in National Treasure! Which came out 20 years ago today!
November so far. I can’t believe November is over November so far. I can’t believe November is over half over. I haven’t been able to blog for several reasons. 1. Both Pat and I caught a cold. Yes, a cold. We tested for COVID multiple times and were negative. 2. The election. Reflections on which will be shared this week on the blog. 3. We have started our office renovation. Well I guess we completed Phase 2. Phase 1 was when we build the wall. Anyway, we painted, laid carpet down, and moved some stuff around. Phase 3 will be making a custom corner wall unit. Meanwhile I finally packed the last Halloween box today. It was the bathroom decor, and began to deep clean. I hope to haul in the Christmas decor this week. How about y’all? How are you holding up? Have you decorated for the holidays?
We need each other more than ever now. We can be s We need each other more than ever now. We can be scared. I am the most scared I’ve ever been in my whole life. We can take today to rest and mourn. My simple advice is look around you. Find those you trust. Build a better community and future with them. And with them we will fight. We must never stop fighting to create a place where everyone is equal. If you learn of protests, groups, programs, anything, that helps others, post it, share it, encourage people to attend, and attend yourself.
So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. G So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. Get involved in your community. Create positive change on your own street. Make a space that is welcoming and inclusive. 💙
Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all s Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all seriousness, black cats are some of the best cats around. They are not bad luck and they are NOT to be used as live, temporary Halloween decorations. A very tragic reality, and a contributing factor to why they are often not available for adoption during October. Sadly because of superstition black cats are the least adopted, and make up roughly a third of the cats available for adoption. So please consider adopting one if you’re looking for a furry companion! They are incredibly affectionate and fun loving! 🐈‍⬛
I can’t believe the @anaheimhalloweenparade is ove I can’t believe the @anaheimhalloweenparade is over. We celebrated the centennial of our parade, quite the milestone! @patrickarlt and I took on a lot more responsibilities and it added to our growing sense of community here in Anaheim. While it may be over for another year, many of our volunteers are already hard at work seeking ways to improve our event for next year! 🎃 I dived a little more into all that Pat and I took on over on the blog! You can find a link in my bio! 🖤
