Christmas on the Prairie

For Christmas Eve Patrick and I went to Knott’s Berry Farm, which always proves extra charming during the holiday season. Each area gets decked out for the holidays, and inside the Birdcage Theatre guests can be entertained by reimaginings of “A Christmas Carol” and “Gift of the Magi” that incorporate elements of the Ghost Town…

Vintage Letters from Santa

Usually around this time of year I share a sampling from my vintage Christmas card collection, but this year I’m bringing you something a little different…vintage letters from the big man in red himself, Santa Claus! I picked these up at an antique store, and they are letters parents could pick up from the local…

The Holidays are Here!

December 5, 2023, 1 Comment on The Holidays are Here!

December has arrived and we finally finished decorating. The biggest thing I was excited about this year wasn’t really any new additions, as much as it was finally finding an aluminum tree set up I liked! Although we still didn’t put up all of the trees! If you’ve been reading for awhile, you’ll see the…

Cowboy Christmas Vol. 2

I can’t believe December begins next week! I haven’t even finished decorating for Christmas! Between entertaining out of town guests and Orville’s Rodeo I started rather late decorating! But you know what always helps me get in the mood for decorating? Christmas music! This year I’m bringing you another round of cowboy Christmas tunes! “Cowboy…

Patchwork Christmas

As per our tradition, Patrick and I went to Disneyland on Christmas Day for a relaxing, but fun day going on a few rides, but mainly indulging in many of the sweet treats offered during the holiday season. We also spent a good deal of time just strolling, peaking in the windows at the marvelous…

Vintage Christmas Cards Vol. 4

December 15, 2022, 1 Comment on Vintage Christmas Cards Vol. 4

Christmas is really all about traditions, even here on the blog, as I have several Christmas time traditions. One of which is sharing a portion of my ever growing vintage Christmas card collection. I really delight in vintage commercial illustration, and greeting cards have always provided some of the warmest, most charming images. This sampling…

Christmas Time is Here Again

Christmas is almost here, and we’ve decorated the house top to bottom for the holiday. It was our first Christmas with Houdini, and as he is a little more curious and rambunctious than Colonel Whiskers, we didn’t put up as many trees as in the past, so you’ll see that the pink and blue trees…

The Island of Misfit Christmas Songs

December 6, 2022, 1 Comment on The Island of Misfit Christmas Songs

Welcome to yet another Christmas playlist post! Each year I pull a small sampling from my large Christmas music collection to share with you and this year I’ve pulled some of the weirdest numbers, a mix of kooky, sad, and downright bizarre. “Island of Misfit Toys” The Misfits The Misfits have been a staple of…

November things. The boys tried to help decorate f November things. The boys tried to help decorate for Christmas, so things have taken way longer than I thought. Friends are the best. Disneyland surprises. And a new car!
This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basi This morning Patrick and I went to Disneyland basically just to eat as much holiday food as we could. It’s been on the chilly for us in California, so I bundled up but wanted to stay comfy, and ended up looking like a David Crosby groupie. Not a bad look for throwing it together at 6 am! From the Holiday Beef Dinner Potato to the gingerbread cookies (the best ones are from Harbor Galley!) to the Cranberry Pomegranate Mint Julep (it’s no Watermelon Julep but it’s still tasty!) we filled our bellies right as it started to sprinkle.

It took over a week to be able to come up with coh It took over a week to be able to come up with coherent words for how I’m feeling after the election. Over on the blog you can find a list of institutions Patrick and I currently support or have previously supported. They offer aid to various threatened groups, provide resources, teaching tools, and ways you can be active. Link can be found in stories and bio!

Also this isn’t Philly! It’s Knott’s Berry Farm! Need a reminder of democracy, visit Knott’s Berry Farm’s recreation of Independence Hall. It’s free to visit! It was also used in National Treasure! Which came out 20 years ago today!
November so far. I can’t believe November is over November so far. I can’t believe November is over half over. I haven’t been able to blog for several reasons. 1. Both Pat and I caught a cold. Yes, a cold. We tested for COVID multiple times and were negative. 2. The election. Reflections on which will be shared this week on the blog. 3. We have started our office renovation. Well I guess we completed Phase 2. Phase 1 was when we build the wall. Anyway, we painted, laid carpet down, and moved some stuff around. Phase 3 will be making a custom corner wall unit. Meanwhile I finally packed the last Halloween box today. It was the bathroom decor, and began to deep clean. I hope to haul in the Christmas decor this week. How about y’all? How are you holding up? Have you decorated for the holidays?
We need each other more than ever now. We can be s We need each other more than ever now. We can be scared. I am the most scared I’ve ever been in my whole life. We can take today to rest and mourn. My simple advice is look around you. Find those you trust. Build a better community and future with them. And with them we will fight. We must never stop fighting to create a place where everyone is equal. If you learn of protests, groups, programs, anything, that helps others, post it, share it, encourage people to attend, and attend yourself.
So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. G So much is at stake. Vote! But don’t stop there. Get involved in your community. Create positive change on your own street. Make a space that is welcoming and inclusive. 💙
Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all s Houdini is ready to be packed away. 🎃 But in all seriousness, black cats are some of the best cats around. They are not bad luck and they are NOT to be used as live, temporary Halloween decorations. A very tragic reality, and a contributing factor to why they are often not available for adoption during October. Sadly because of superstition black cats are the least adopted, and make up roughly a third of the cats available for adoption. So please consider adopting one if you’re looking for a furry companion! They are incredibly affectionate and fun loving! 🐈‍⬛

We celebrated the centennial of our parade, quite the milestone! @patrickarlt and I took on a lot more responsibilities and it added to our growing sense of community here in Anaheim. While it may be over for another year, many of our volunteers are already hard at work seeking ways to improve our event for next year! 🎃 I dived a little more into all that Pat and I took on over on the blog!
