Merry Christmas

From our forest of aluminum Christmas trees, Patrick and I wish you all a lovely Christmas wherever the holiday finds you this year. Once again, we tried to incorporate Colonel Whiskers into our Christmas photo this year, but he meowed and looked grumpy the entire time. I’ll be posting outtakes with him on Instagram.

Vintage Christmas Wrapping Paper

December 19, 2019, 3 Comments

Recently at a flea market, I spied this super cute box for wrapping paper. I was drawn to the cheerful Santa, and thought he would pair nicely with a vintage box for Christmas cards I had to display (you can catch the box under the “Reindeer Drive” sign in our Christmas decor post here). But…

Vintage Christmas Cards Vol. 2

Last year I shared part of my vintage Christmas card collection with you all, and well, the collection has grown, and I’m here to share more with you! I’ll start by sharing the card we actually reproduced as our Christmas card this year… I found it so fitting as a representation of Patrick, myself, and Colonel…

The Bird Cage Theatre

December 10, 2019, 13 Comments

Tucked inside Knott’s Berry Farm’s version of The Bird Cage Theatre (the real deal is in Tombstone) is a small wall featuring wallpaper of white birds sitting inside gilded cages and swirling green leaves. I’ve always admired it, and because it gave me serious Christmas vibes I thought, “Oh, wouldn’t it be nice to have…

Never Too Many Christmas Trees

December 4, 2019, 10 Comments

It’s hard to believe it’s December. I feel like Halloween was just last week! We recently decorated the house for Christmas, which took a little longer than last year, as between then and now we acquired another vintage aluminum Christmas tree, a four foot gold tree. So this year we decided to move out some…

Have a Rockin’ Christmas

November 28, 2019, 1 Comment

It’s that time of year to get into the Christmas spirit! And what better way to start than with some Christmas music? For the last two years I’ve shared selections from my Christmas music collection, and this year is no different! Now, we all know the classic “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” but what if…

Knott’s Merry Farm is a Western Winter Wonderland

November 26, 2019, 2 Comments

Last week Knott’s Berry Farm received a dusting of snow transforming it into Knott’s Merry Farm. I love Christmas, and honestly, Knott’s is the warmest, coziest place to spend the holidays when it comes to theme parks. Intimate settings, multiple shows, shows plus a craft fair make you feel like you’ve come to a small…

Vintage Mini Trick or Treat Bags

October 17, 2019, 4 Comments

Two years ago I started collecting vintage Christmas cards. The cards were like mini works of art, and I thought I would display them like clothes hanging on a line. I kept the idea going with vintage Valentines, and then for Halloween last year I decided to do it with vintage miniature treat bags, perhaps…

Book Review: Holiday Jubilee

October 15, 2019, Leave a Comment on Book Review: Holiday Jubilee

In his latest book, Holiday Jubilee, Charles Phoenix, the Ambassador of Americana, celebrates the holidays in all of their mid-century glory, arguing that the “holidays are so retro!” And, you know what? I think he’s right! While holidays have been around for thousands of years, it was in the mid-20th century that they came into…

Trick or Treat

October 9, 2019, 4 Comments

Per usual, I’ve had the house decorated for Halloween for a few weeks now, but have been procrastinating because I keep stumbling upon new items! But seeing as it’s almost mid-October, I’d say it’s time to share. Recently Patrick and I scored this beautiful vintage atomic shadowbox. It was in shambles, but we restored it…
